This review is from: New Jersey: A Guide to the State (Paperback)
Finally! After purchasing almost every New Jersey travel and history book I could find, I happened across this book. This is the book for culturally interested travelers and residents. The author considers over 200 cities and towns individually (in alphabetical order), highlighting historic sites and important events. The historical context is superb, with special emphasis on New Jersey's critical role in the Revolutionary War and the colonial period in general. Hotel and restaurant listings are limited to a few exceptional examples in each town.
Want a guide to the New York suburbs? Steer clear of this one. Want a guide to the slower, rural, more settled parts of this beautiful state? This is the book for you. There are very few photographs, so don't buy this book for your coffee table. Think of it as a Rough Guide for New Jersey. |
