4.0 out of 5 stars Skrape-y music
I won't say these guys are extremely original, but hey, who cares if the music hits hard and it's good. Skrape do that very well. These songs are all heavy, thickly guitar layered songs. Some fast some a little slower. But the part I like the best is the singing. Very rarely does the singer break down into "scream your head off bloody murder." That type of...

I won't say these guys are extremely original, but hey, who cares if the music hits hard and it's good. Skrape do that very well. These songs are all heavy, thickly guitar layered songs. Some fast some a little slower. But the part I like the best is the singing. Very rarely does the singer break down into "scream your head off bloody murder." That type of "singing" just begins to grate on you after a while. But this CD has actual singing, and it's done (fairly) well. I won't say he's a vocal genius, but it sounds good. The choruses of the songs all have good melodic quality to them, which is sometimes hard to do with such heavy music.

Overall, a great metal CD with melodic choruses. So maybe it is derivative of other heavy bands...big deal, if it's good music you should still give it a try...that's what you should do with this CD.

It's about time another nu-metal band kicks mucho @$$. After many lame and linear bands coming out, I was kind of skeptical in buying this latest addition, SKRAPE. Well, to say the least: they are great, and every song is non-stop rock. The singer sounds a lot like fingereleven's singer, which is a good thing. Then, unexpectedly, a menacing scream will emerge from him. Great singer. The rest of the band is also good, and proves that you don't need to be too unique to have your own style. They sound like their own band, and are very tight together. and you can't disregard that special cheap price. so, make sure to pick up this cd.

This cd blew my mind! I bought it because it was just $. I heard their song "waste" and thought it was pretty good and when I saw their cd at (store name) for only $, I thought why not, so i bought it. Skrape is a great "up-and-coming" band. I know they will be big....u can just tell when u listen to this cd. My favorite tracks on the cd are: "What You Say", "Waste", Kill Control", and "Blow Up". They actually sound like Godsmack at times...expecially the singer/vocalist. I tell you just buy the cd...expecially if u like Godsmack...dont waste any time...buy it now before the price goes up when they start to really get popular!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best metal/rock debuts in a long time, March 27, 2001

I bought this album having never heard of the band and, more importantly, having never heard any of their songs. After listening to the entire CD, I was completly shocked at how good it was.

Initially, I was hopeful that there would be at least 2-3 decent songs on the CD, and although you've never met me, trust me on this: every song on this CD is amazingly good. ...Some of the best songs are "What You Say", "Waste", "Sunshine", and "Kill Control".

The music style is pure hard rock / heavy metal that doesn't let up. Although I am not opposed to rap-metal, I'll inform you that there is not a trace of rap on this album - just extremely solid, heavy music. If you like hardcore rock / metal bands like Machine Head, Utraspank, Nothingface, Factory 81, Godsamck, get this album. It replaces The Deadlights as my new favorite metal debut album.

5.0 out of 5 stars the only best nu-metal band ever made!, May 10, 2003

the band every metal fan has been waiting for has not been noticed! I remember when i first heard this band... i was talking to my cuz online and he sent this song to me called "waste" and had no idea about it. so i listed to it and loved it since day one....

that was proably the only song i would listen to them until i downloaded some more of their songs....believe me all of them were great..they were so put to gether so well i went and bought the cd as soon as i could

before i was into skrape i liked korn, orgy, bizkit and other bands i needed somthing with energy, somthing with boss that could hit other music hard im talking about skrape. ever since i picked up that cd five months ago i never get tired of it
my favoarte song is proably "goodbye", "rise" or "what you say" i dont kno something about this band makes me want to get up and be in a band just like them. if you listen to mr. keetons voice when it's screamin you will jump out of your seat. his voice matches the riffs and everything about skrape

i recomend this cd to everyone if you like anything that has a unique style of rock this is the band for you...get it

5.0 out of 5 stars a really good heavy metal band, May 15, 2002

finally a nu-metal band who actually has a truly talented singer. the melodies in this CD is the thing that really sets them apart from the rest. especially in "isolated", "rise", and "sunshine". "rake" is also a very good one. i love all the songs on here. while they all do indeed sound similar in a way they all have their own distinct sound and it's usually because of the melodic chorus they throw in. this band is truly talented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a good heavy metal band!!!, August 15, 2001
This review is from: New Killer America (Audio CD)
I first heard 'Waste' on Ozzfest Radio in school. From then on I loved the song, and eventually the entire cd. Skrape is what you get when you mix Godsmack, deftones, and Distured. Without getting something bad, instead you get a great band that has a lot of great songs. My favorite songs on this cd are 'Waste',their first single which is great, 'Rise', 'Rake', and 'I Know'. Don't get me wrong, i love this entire cd, those songs are just the ones that stick out as really good and "hit-worthy". If you like godsmack, deftones, or Disturbed(the lead singer sounds a lot like the lead singer of Disturbed) then definetly do not miss this cd!!!

I was attracted to these guys by the single "Waste" which I thought was super heavy and a very excellent song. "What You Say", "Waste" and "Isolated" are incredibly good but seem to be the best parts of the album with the rest of the disc tapering off after that. I really do like this band alot but they're music is hardly original and they seem to borrow their sound from Static-X (thanks, Ulrich Wild) which isn't a bad thing. The album shows diversity which sometimes works (sometimes doesn't) with "Broken Knees" and also shows that the singer can actually sing ("Isolated") and not just scream. It'll be interesting to see how these kids stack up to heavyweights like Pantera & Slayer on the upcoming tour. Also already looking forward to their sophomore disc to see how they will progress. I'll be there to see both.....
