This is a very interesting and informative book. It is very complete and it explains how South Korean filmmaking has moved forward from a time when the South Korean government was overly controlling of the various film productions to a time in today's market when individual filmmaker creativity is allowed to flourish.
In some ways this book comes off like a academic study in the presentation of its material. As it is published by New York University Press, which has a great film school, I believe that it may have been originally written as some sort of thesis. This fact does not take away from the important information presented in this book. Overall if you want to know about the evolution of Korean cinema this is the best book on the market. It provides in depth research and important examples in the trends and the films of Korean filmmaking. |
