Thank you Colin thank you!, September 4, 2003
This review is from: A New Ladies' Man: Getting the Girl (Paperback)
Great book, especially Colin's chapter about learning to stop masturbating compulsively. It's an embarrassing affliction that very few men are willing to discuss, and I appreciate Colin's willingness to talk about how he overcame his problem (and mine, I admit!). Colin-- it's SO true that we should love ourselves and not hurt ourselves. Enjoyed the chapter on grooming, too, particularly Colin's tips on dealing with huge facial moles. You were right, Colin-- a little bit of linseed oil each morning really does keep those weird long hairs from sprouting! Kudos to you!

Hot stuff, September 4, 2003
This review is from: A New Ladies' Man: Getting the Girl (Paperback)
I must say that Colin's first book is absolutely WOW, for want of a better word. His insights into the bizarre thoughts that float around the pubescent, male mind are right on target. I've passed this book onto my mother, and upon reachin home at 3AM, I found her still wide awake and voraciously eating up the book as well as the bowlful of popcorn on her lap, and chuckling quietly to herself. As a rule, my mom is usually in bed by 10, so this speaks HIGHLY of Mr. Mortensen's writing skills and his ability to relate to mostly everyone, although this book is geared mainly towards young adult males. The language is simplistic and straight-forward, and the information is easily accessible and absolutely relatable. Two thumbs AND two big toes up! Hopefully this shall be the first of many books to come. A must read for everyone.

INDISPENSABLE, July 3, 2003
This review is from: A New Ladies' Man: Getting the Girl (Paperback)
This book is all-important. It's aimed at young men, high school and up, bringing them updated ideas and very positive information about coming of age and dealing with dating, love, sex and romantic relationships. Mortensen distills the hard-won lessons of a lot of tough experiences in this book, and yet speaks to the young reader not with the cold, detached, (and boring) voice of authority, but instead with a lot of integrity and compassion, been-through-this knowledge, and also relentless, wickedly-funny, teenage-angst-dissolving comedy. The book sends the convincing and powerful message that young men who successfully manage and cultivate their own growth become adult men who relate to women with ease, treat women with the respect and integrity they deserve, and enjoy the most enriching love relationships. Speaking to the reader peer-to-peer, Mortensen shares the information that young guys desperately need to begin to make their journey through a new and baffling world of romantic relationships: a challenge which confronts them with no warning. This information will SPARE a lot of young men the humiliation, confusion, and general feeling of incompetence that so many of us experienced, and yet endured in embarassment and isolation. I think this book is an invaluable resource for turning the tables on this disabling state of affairs, and for helping young men with the critical process of becoming healthy, confident, and loving adults. This unique book is un-doing the gag on this crucial subject. Its message --- that through the course of adolescence young men can learn to appreciate and respect themselves and others *as they are*, instead of learning to fear and persecute themselves and the women in their lives --- is VITAL. Mortensen's book is a revolution just aching to happen.
