Editorial Reviews

"This debut CD by composer/pianist Ramona Borthwick is her first offering as a leader and, by the sounds of it, it certainly won’t be her last. Her sound and the compositions are unique and the playing is flawless. Her fellow musicians bring the music to a level that is rarely shown on a debut release." - JAZZ REVIEW

A New Leaf is pianist/composer Ramona Borthwick’s debut CD as a leader, and features 11 original compositions reflecting influences ranging from ECM jazz and Latin music to a hint of spice from her native India. Originally from Bombay, Borthwick trained as a classical pianist, earning performance degrees through the Trinity College and Royal Schools of Music. She began exploring jazz piano and vocal stylings soon after. Sound Matters, a critically acclaimed recording released in India in 1991, featured her playing mainstream and contemporary jazz.
