Biography

In the past decade, Chicago's Mike Kinsella has played a variety of instruments in a handful of bands including Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, The One Up Downstairs, American Football, Owls, Maritime, and Aloha. Owen is his solo project.

The impetus for Owen was a direct result of the demise of American Football. Up to that point, having been associated with a number of bands, Mike sought a project where… Read more in Amazon's Owen Store

5.0 out of 5 stars there's a kid somewhere discovering american football..., September 26, 2009

who will be amazed by mike kinsella's honesty... and then move on to discover owen (or vice versa) and the other amazing bands that coincide with the evergrowing kinsella catalog. the great thing about owen is that no matter where you start you always feel welcomed. the music really provokes a certain feeling of comfort even when he is talking about a real downer situation. that's the real pull all of his records have on me. the music is enchanting, dreamy, yet the lyrics bring us to a differnt place, but you don't feel like you're going to be sucked into a complete sob story as is the case with most storytelling artists. it's a celabration of all the things that keep you up at night! like for sirious, chances are if you've stumbled across this record you already know who this artist is or the selections of which brought you here are of a similar category, so therefore i don't need to classify New Leaves into any specific genre or break it down track by track because i'm too lazy to go into an over abundance of detail (and a bit hazy by now sulking in my misery and drowning in intoxication...i'm joking). point in case, no one has reviewed this record yet and i wonder why. there's one more thing i have to keep me up at night.

p.s. - for a 5'th LP this album is amazing, i don't know if i mentioned that... so if you are able and willing---> support talented artists before the quality of production suffers and distribution becomes daunted by the weight of currency :(

5.0 out of 5 stars Continues to not dissapoint..., October 9, 2009
This review is from: New Leaves (MP3 Download)
Mike hits the mark yet again. His music continues to grow and becomes better, as both he and his listeners grow older. One of the most honest, friendly, hard working musicians in the business. If you've liked anything Mike has had his hands on in the past, you will like this just as much.
