Simply put: Monica is one of the top vocalists in the industry. PERIOD. She has excelled over the years to a caliber of style that is truly what we can all characterize as classic. It's so important to support voices like Monica's and those of her genre mates. Sadly, they don't get the credit they deserve and are deemed underrated; this should not be the case and we have the power to change that! Real R&B (Soul Music) is what artists like Monica, Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Tyrese, John Legend, Ledisi, Fantasia, Anthony Hamilton, Usher, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, R. Kelly, Jaheim, Musiq Soulchild, Avant (just to name a few), give to us in addition to our soul music legends of the past that include Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, etcetera.

Monica's growth as an artist shows on her latest album release entitled: `New Life,' she's an R&B veteran. Monica seems to be justifiably happier now in her personal and professional life. The `New Life' album is evidence of this because she sings volumes about how she has withstood the dramas of yesterday and transcended into her `New Life' (hence the title of the album).

Excellent effort with this album Monica! I wish you much success as I'm sure this release will take your career even further! I have been following your career since `Miss Thang' and you never disappoint, you always deliver quality! Congratulations on achieving what's so hard for a lot of singers to obtain: Being a genuine artist with lots of humility, love, and passion for what you do. By the way, if you're reading this and you haven't bought your copy of `New Life' yet, I have one question: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? For the real Monica fans/supporters, like me :), go out and buy more than one copy of the album because from `Miss Thang' to `New Life' you can truly feel the life lessons Monica has learned as she sings them to us through her music; Enjoy the album!

Monica "New Life" is her 7th studio project and a testimony about her new beginning and life as Monica Denise Brown who married NBA star of the Phoenix Suns Shannon Brown.
"New Life" is indeed different from her last 2 projects "Still Standing" & "The Makings Of Me". Uptempo songs are virtually non-existent majority of the project are slow and melodic with an old school feel. Her vocals are incredible and lyrically sound as she expresses her hurt and pain throughout her past as you will hear on "It All Belongs to Me", "Big Mistake", "Until Its Gone", "Time To Move On" & "Breathe"-Deluxe Version
Actually it reminds me of Mary J. Blige "My Life II" which is ironic since Mary J. Blige is on the "Intro" to whom Monica is talking to over the telephone but Mary & Monica are both known as heart felt R&B/Soul/Gospel singers that put so much soul & emotions into their songs which makes them the artists they are today but just like Mary J. Blige "My Life II" I had to do the exact same for Monica "New Life" and that was to listen to it over and over again because listening to it for the first time it didn't captivate me but after the third & fourth listen it began to grow on me but overall I think it's good listening project which shows Monica's growth musically but it is a different flavor that NOT everyone (including me) will relate but will to those who are musically mature & diverse.
My personal opinion would be to invest a few more dollars and get the Deluxe version which has 4 extra tracks but that's ONLY if you are feeling the "New Life" project. I usually don't do this but I'm going to break each song down and give you my HONEST opinion on what I think. The "Intro" and "Outro" wont be included.
It All Belongs To Me f/ Brandy:
This is the 1st single off the "New Life" project also the first duet by Monica and Brandy in 14 years. I think it's a lackluster song, one the worst songs on the project and should have NOT been the first release but the live "Remix" (AOL Sessions) of this version is much better. Go to youtube.
Daddy's Good Girl:
Has a nice groovable beat...A good listening song but nothing all that captivating.
Man Who Has Everything:
Has a nice reggae feel with a melodic groove..I like this song.
Big Mistake:
Put me in the mind of the old school song by Shirley Murdock "As we Lay" just a lil more uptempo but this is one of my favorites. Very Good.
Take A Chance f/ Wale:
Sound like something Beyonce would do...Radio friendly but not my type of flavor...Sleeper.
Without You:
Another one of my favorites. slow and melodic
Until It's Gone:
The best song on the project..Hands down.
Amazing:
The song is dedicated to her husband "Shannon Brown" Good song lyrically but is musically weak.
Cry:
Taking me back to 70's sound of Al Green...Good song indeed.
Time To Move On:
Still on the old school train this time taking me back to Etta James mixed with a lil' Staples singers. If you like that flavor then its a good song plus Monica's voice is incredible.

Another vocally great track by Monica...Good song
In 3D:
Radio & Pop friendly song...Good crossover track. Not one of my favorites though.
Catch Me:
Sample of the Dramatics "In The Rain and The Main Ingredient "Let Me Prove My Love to You" in which you heard in Alicia Keys "You Don't Know My Name"...Beautiful song another favorite

Once again after listening to this project over and over I came to the conclusion that this is a good & decent project but I still like her previous 2 projects much better.

Since Monica debuted on the R&B scene in 1995, her voice has never disappointed. Even if Monica recorded one of the worst songs ever written, by the time you get to the end of that Horrible record you would not be able to criticize her voice. To go along with her voice, Monica is a pro at delivering a story which is what the true essence of R&B is all about. Delivering a message, story, and doing it with soul. "New Life" stays true to that. The album highlights her past troubles, while embracing her new blessings. Monica serves up both songs recorded about her happier place, and songs recorded about her darker times understanding that her fans all over the globe can relate to both.

Not my style
I got this for a friend who loves her. As for me, I don't care for her. She does have a very strong voice and can hit some good notes, however.
