About the Author

Author Terry Benczik has enjoyed a lifelong love of poetry and writing. At 24, she was hired as a full-time staff news writer for CBS News, writing for "Nightwatch" and later for "The CBS Morning News" After CBS, a desire to make a difference brought her into government service, working in offices at the World Trade Center (WTC). She was part of a team that won the New York PRSA's Big Apple Award for their work with international media following the WTC bombing in 1993. She brought reporters on tours of the explosion site and connected them with those who were protecting and rebuilding the damaged areas. Ms. Benczik's essay on her experience the morning of the 2001 World Trade Center attacks was selected by the Library of Congress for the "American Memory" exhibit. Teaching material based on her story was developed by the Library of Congress for classroom use. Ms. Benczik's essay on the George Washington Bridge is in the book "Perpetual Motion" and her essay on the Holland Tunnel is in "Today's Public Relations" by Heath and Coombs. Terry is acknowledged in seven other books including "American Television Drama" by Dr. William Hawes; and in "The Remorseful Day" by Inspector Morse creator Colin Dexter. In 2007, she won a silver medal in Poetry.com's International Poetry Contest. An avid beachcomber, classic film buff, and appreciator of the arts, Ms. Benczik lives in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with a few prized seashells and many, many books.

Terry Benczik a poet of sparkling wit and high-wire sensibility has written an enchanting new book. The subject: Love. Love in all its forms, shapes, guises, inchoate, slavish, bittersweet, a changeling emotion but one always worth, according to the insightful Ms.Benczik, immersing oneself in despite the emotional briars that can rancor and bedevil. Terry writes about tentative, faulty first-step love {"Your Beautiful Face"} where the heart is secure in its commitment but the physiognomy of the object of affection elusive. About burgeoning love{"For You,My Love"}which appropriately should have a symphonic background tethered to its every dazzling moment and old love reconstituted with a semi-sad libretto attached to its tatterdemalion poetic heels {"Aftermath of Soft Septembers"}.She is a worldly spelunker of the heart who peels back the rind of a relationship to reveal the messy entrails and sublime, roseate odor of amore in all its manifestations.Sometimes she press-gangs notables into her poetic vision: a missing aviatrix whose disappearance might becloud a romantic assignation; an unremarkable soda-sipper of unsurpassed beauty who is about to become a nation's cinematic love-interest, and an aged but still dashing thespian who increasingly performs his auditions in the cramped aisles of a neighborhood deli. These are wonderful pieces and they continue page after page, poem after poem to enthrall, delight and bestir the imagination. My favorite:The Buddha of the Holland Tunnel based on a true occurence a few weeks after 9/11's day of devastation in which the author espies a wooden Buddha in an antique shop window. The storefront sculpture subsequently engages her about life's horrific cruelties and the healing capacity of love.Initially she demurs buying it, but calls back later to see if it is available."My description was perfect" she intones when reprising her conversation with the store manager. Perfect like every poetic description in this lovely and inspiring book.

New Love Poems makes you laugh, cry, and raises your spirits. The book focuses on the various aspects on love relationships. Terry Benczik speaks to the longing for a loving relationship, humanity or a higher power. It's thought provoking as well sense stimulating. I didn't expect to enjoy the writing because I am not a poetry person in general. I was given New Love Poems as a gift and read it. It touched me in ways I was not expecting and it was the poems that I least expected that I found the deepest connections. Some of the poems are very subtle and some of them are right in your face and they all blend together to form a beautiful mosaic. The book just gets better the further in you read and some of the very best poems are in the last quarter of the book. It is one of those rare gems that leave you wanting more.

Highly recommended.

Terry's New Love Poems is a wonderful book. She has a beautiful relatable way to connect the reader to her poetry. I thoroughly enjoyed all of her poems, but I especially liked the poems in the Chapters called "A Place That Is Ours" and "Higher Love". I felt that some of those poems were written just for me!! It has been such a pleasure to read this book. I know I will go back from time to time and reread it!!

What a surprisingly wonderful little book! Universal in its appeal, I have read it cover to cover several times. Like a patchwork quilt its many insightful poems fit together beautifully. The result is a pleasing whole that draws the reader in for closer introspection. You can tell it was handcrafted with love.

New Love Poems is funny, touching, sad and uplifting. It concentrates on the feelings that people bring to a love relationship, whether it is the longing for love, the love between two people, the love of humanity and the world, or the love of a higher power. It's smart, funny and poignant. It provokes and stimulates your senses. I didn't expect to be moved by some of the tender poems, and to laugh at the funny ones. One or two of the poems are silly, some are serious, but the overall feeling that I got was that I experienced something extraordinary in the masterfully written pages. It is a tour through the many feelings that love can bring, be it frustration, joy or passion. I enjoyed reading it, and think it would make a great gift. For the woman, gifting to a man, it would show him that you are real, intelligent, caring and deeply in love. For the man, gifting to his woman, I would recommend this book instead of, or in addition to, a card, dinner or roses to show her how much she means to you and that you believe that love is a very important thing in your life. Enjoy the book!

I'll keep this short and sweet: Terry is a wonderful poet. These poems are mostly very short and terse. Some rhyme and some are free verse. Terry alternates ordinary language with beautiful imagery. Highly recommended.
