I liked this book because it helps me to understand in laymans terms what I really need to do in order to save money. I've tried several of the ideas mentioned in the book with POSITIVE results.

First, Amazon on its review page is wrong. The book is by Ron Blue. The forward to the book is by Swindoll.
The book is easy to follow with easy how-to worksheets/tables to apply to your own situation.

Solid Financial Advice,
By Andrew R. Allen (Lilburn, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Master Your Money (Paperback)
Ron Blue's "Master Your Money" is a very good resource for learning to manage finances from a pure technical perspective as well as from a Biblical basis. He shares well honed financial expertise grounded in years of professional financial planning and accounting practice.
The book walks through the basics of determining where you are financially and then developing goals and intermediate steps towards reaching those goals. Fundamentals of budgeting are covered with attention given to increasing cash flow margin to allow for funding of long range goals such as paying off debt, making investments, starting a business, paying for children's college, and giving away large sums of money. While Mr. Blue definitely takes the approach the debt should be minimized and very thoroughly evaluated before even considering, he does not take quite as extreme an approach towards no debt as Dave Ramsey. He also offers a bit different perspective on term vs. whole or variable life insurance. A couple sections of the book which I found to be outstanding were the discussion on giving and estate planning. He offers lots of wise counsel on what to think about when developing a plan for passing on assets to the next generation. His insight on giving and going through a process of prayer to determine what God would have the person give is excellent as well.

I gave this as a gift to a friend. I read the original book 30 years ago and gave it to our sons then.

Helpful for household finances,

This review is from: The New Master Your Money (Paperback)
Ron Blue grew up in my hometown, where his dad was the mayor for years. I've used this book to manage my household bills and save money, and it works. Blue uses Biblical references and principles throughout. Buy the workbook that goes with it. Honestly, follow his advice and you will be able to manage your day to day household finances. It worked for me.

This is a great book to get started. We bought and read it over a year ago. We have paid off much debt and on our way to pay off our house(the last of it), thanks to information in this book. We've followed most of the steps Ron has suggested and love the freedom and security that it has provided us!

Worth the money!,

I'm only into the 6th chapter of Master Your Money, but what I have read so far is great! He presents easily learned principles and gives memorable content.
One such principle is worth the price of the book: the longer term your perspective, the better your financial decision. This principle can be stated without the word "financial" and it is just as true: the longer term your perspective, the better your decision. Buy this book: it is an easy read, with logical organization not only from chapter to chapter, but within each chapter. Why didn't I read this before?

Clear, Helpful, Practical...a definite keeper!,
This review is from: The New Master Your Money (Paperback)
Ron Blue's book, Master Your Money was a life changing book for me while in graduate school. While working at my studies I needed a grounding in financial insights since we were struggling grad students but still had to make future plans for our family's finances.
Ron's book answered so many basics and I was so impressed with it that we asked him to write an essay for us at USChurch.Info - America's Church Address. It has proven to be one of our most popular essays we provide online to individuals and families wanting to successfully integrate into a new church. In fact, we use his new edition as an incentive for Churches to update their Church data in our directory. It has proven very popular for Church libraries.

Nothing new,

I didn't really gain anything from this book. Maybe because I read other books on financial planning already. The charts are boring and confusing. The one star is for the chapter on estate planning. That is the largest and most useful chapter in the book. If you're interested in this, then you should read this book, but for one chapter...eh, get it from the library.
