5.0 out of 5 stars Great Easy Recipes for a Low-Fat Lifestyle
This cookbook is great! Eating healthy never tasted so good. Meal preparation is easy, fast and uses ingredients that many of us keep on hand. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not very adaptable for the everyday family.
This cookbook is very ridiculous! I'm a mother of two small children and I cannot easily prepare these recipes with ingredients that are common in the kitchen. I need something that is easily adaptable to the everyday family. This book was not it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Easy Recipes for a Low-Fat Lifestyle, June 5, 1999

There is a wide variety of recipes for every taste, and even a section of low-fat, healthful desserts.. yum! An added bonus - a forward by Dr. McDougall explaining his program for better nutrition and health. The first cookbook I have ever bought that doesnt contain recipes I wont use. No sifting through this one to find "something" to cook. Every dish is appealing, and I will use this cookbook for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars When exercising a la Oprah wasn't enough..., August 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The New McDougall Cookbook: 300 Delicious Ultra-Low-Fat Recipes (Paperback)
I was simply looking for a low-fat cookbook at the library, and happened upon this treasure. After only about a month of eating their food I'm a much lighter and a much healthier person. The only downside is that I have to put up with people looking at me cross-eyed because I dare believe that milk and meat make me sick. Try it. It works. And there's no hidden cost! Although this isn't really a 'diet program', it has the same effect, and there are no shakes to buy, or classes to sign up for. Just eat right and exercise... the eating right part is the big difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars McDougall changes lives, September 25, 2008
This review is from: The New McDougall Cookbook: 300 Delicious Ultra-Low-Fat Recipes (Paperback)
I was amazed that the professional reviewers of this book had such a "bah-humbug" attitude about them! The program is hardly "draconian" as one reviewer put it -- you eat all you want of healthy, good tasting, real food. My mother discovered McDougall ages ago, before any of these glossier books came out -- and at 83, she still takes no medications and at her last check-up, the nurse commented that her "heart was like a teenager's!" The hardest part of staying on McDougall is that you have a whole culture working against it -- all those high-fat foods or this strange culture of the "high protein" diet. People think you're some kind of "weirdo." But the usual American diet isn't weird, right? We can buy meals in minutes with 1200+ calories and 69 fat grams and never even have to leave our cars! Read the reviews by the people who have actually tried McDougall -- they loved it. Even people who are enticed away from this way of eating area always wanting to go back to it. It does take some dedication at the start -- one is breaking some very old habits. But it's worth a try. McDougall has decades worth of healthy patients to reinforce what he's been developing since his earliest days as an MD. He's still a practicing doctor, still a researcher, and continues to grow and learn about nutrition, health and the vegan diet. Atkins died overweight and very sick. John and Mary McDougall are still healthy and robust -- and so are the people who actually follow his nutritional advice. Does that say something? Within the past couple of years, my brother-in-law, inspired by my mother's experiences on McDougall, tried it out. He was widowed, had had a heart-attack, and was looking for a better way to eat and be healthy. A couple years later, he's healthier than he's ever been in his life and wishes he hadn't waited so long. Of course, McDougall's real secret weapon is his wife, Mary McDougall. She's the true reason that John McDougall can convince people that they can still 'eat well" on a vegan diet. She's a nutritionist by training, and after so many decades, is no doubt one of the foremost vegan chefs around, always coming up with new recipes for both old and new favorites. I applaud them both for helping so many people discover a health and way of life they never knew they could. I recommend an earlier book, "The McDougall Program: 12 Days to Dynamic Health" as a better "starter" book than his later cookbooks. Give the McDougall program a try. You'll be amazed how fast you start feeling better, even if you felt pretty good before!

5.0 out of 5 stars this is one good program!!!, October 30, 2005
This review is from: The New McDougall Cookbook: 300 Delicious Ultra-Low-Fat Recipes (Paperback)
we happened across the mcdougall program through anthony robbins.we were total dairy and meat addicts and believed that it was really good to eat lots of it.however ,we did a 10 day challenge and cut it all out ,and have never looked back....blood pressure dropped, weight dropped, muscle tone and energy increased.we now have perfect skin and the whites of our eyes are now perfectly clean....so we are hooked...don't worry...he does say you can have a "feast food" on a special occassion, so you aren't going to have to never have your favorites..but you will discover an efficient well body that you never realised you had!. book is great...

In an 8 month battle with the health effects of years on the standard Western diet, this book is now the first off my shelf of cookbooks. (McDougall Quick and Easy is second).

The index is useful. The food is filling and tasty. The health effect is 65 pounds lost and cholesterol cut in half. You will satisfy your desire for good food and possibally save your life!

The great thing about a McDougall recipe is the spice blends. Mary McDougall really knows how to put spices together to make things delicious. I highly recommend this and other McDougall books.

I think all of Dr. McDougall's books are very very good. The cookbooks are really a big help to me as I learn how to cook this new way. The China Study got my husband and I started in this direction and we are very happy it did! We do feel a lot better already but expect to feel even better after a few more months (we are in our first month). This is a cookbook that I plan on using for a long time. I also like the Almost No Fat Cookbook by Grogan (it uses no animal fat).

McDougall rocks! I think Dr. McDougall has the answers to our health problems and reading all of his books, even the ones that are out of print or hard to find is so worth the effort. If you want to see your blood pressure go down, your cholesterol drop and your aches and pains go away - you've got nothing to lose by giving his program a try. You quickly become accustomed to a change in your diet. If you want to stay away from the doctor, get rid of your prescriptions and chuckle at the commericals for medications - you need to begin McDougalling. Life changing!

Having just recently started a low fat, low sodium, plant based diet this is just what I have been looking for. Being a meat and potatoes all my life I had no clue as to where to go as far as recipes.
