The Santos or Saints evolved with the Spanish colonial settlers of the 1700's. The Santeros (saint maker) created reproductions of holy sacred images brought from Spain using one of two media; statues and altar screens. This art flowered until the1800's. By the start of the twentieth century it was past contemporary cultures flimsy fancy. An exquisitely cared for piece of Western Americana art. It is rare no matter where you look. It promises to increase in value ten-fold over the next ten years. I personally feel uncomfortable with that promise, but I can understand why. World cataloque lists 36 copies worldwide. .
