I purchased this for my ten year old great-grandson, for Christmas-2006. He was so pleased and showed the family members (at the Christmas dinner). He loves to investigate the small hairs, strips of carpet threads and anything else he found to put on the slides that were in the box. We all found it amazing to watch his responses to his findings. What a blessing when children can find a project to learn by, other than television.

Sadly, this served as no educational purpose except to frustrate and squelch my daughter's enthusiasm for science. The light doesn't illuminate the specimen enough and the you can only make out a little bit of what you are seeing under the 300x magnifications. The 600x and the 1200x are just blurry and undectable. I am trying to return this as we speak. Don't waste your money!!! This is a classic case of you get what you paid for. Pay close to nothing and you get close to nothing.

This is a horrible product -- don't buy it! The plastic is about the cheapest plastic one can find. Then it is almost impossible to actually see the items under the scope. And various other things were ridiculous, e.g., way too hard to take off the bottom portion to insert batteries. Why not a snap cover? Seriously, spend $20 more bucks to get a better product. That's what we plan on doing, especially after this merchant charged almost as much for shipping as for the actual product. And because of the cheap plastic, it was incredibly light for a microscope! Why so much shipping?
