5.0 out of 5 stars Yello show what they can do, May 2, 2000
This review is from: New Mix in One Go 1980-1985 (Audio CD)
This was my first Yello album, and you should make it yours too. It includes all of the best tracks from the groups first three or four albums, but several of them are the far superior versions that have come from editing the 12" mix single versions. So, you get the fantastic souped up madness of "PinBall Cha Cha" and "Vicious Games", etc. instead of the limper album versions. The collection focuses on the singles, such as the fab "I Love You" and "Oh Yeah" as well as more accessible album tracks, like "Angel No" (more great vocals from Rush Winters) and "Domingo". The songs are mixed together, which put me off a bit, but it's done well, and anyway, the selection is miles better then the so-called "Essential Yello" album, which has too many lame singles from the later years. Buy this, as it's well worth the price, treasure it, then imagine the glory that would be an album called "Yello - The Full 12" mixes 80 to 85"

5.0 out of 5 stars A quintessential purchase, November 9, 2003
This review is from: New Mix in One Go 1980-1985 (Audio CD)
Yeah I know you can get Oh Yeah on god knows how many bloody 80s compilations but this is still a worthwhile purchase because with tracks such as Domingo and Bananas To The Beat along side the brilliant Vicious Games and I Love You.....there really is nothing more for you than to pick up a copy.

I bought this CD many years ago (about 16 years). This is a great Yello CD. I don't have all of their earlier albums, so having this one album with a lot of their earlier songs is great. If you like Yello, you will like this CD. It something like their greatest hits, or their most memorable songs, from their early years. I almost liked every song on the CD, and I still try to play it once in a while these days.

I first acquired this on cassette back in the 80s when I started listening to Yello. They actually played the entire album on the radio in my hometown of Seattle, WA.

Compared to the original recordings, this CD was a huge improvement (mastered ADD) and the sound is/was spectacular. Now Yello has re-issued most of their original works so this CD is less critical for your collection. Also note: Several songs here are different versions than the originals. Most notable are "Lost Again" and "Vicious Games." "Oh Yeah" is the same as is "The Swing." I've grown to actually prefer the original recordings over time because they contain additional lyrics/measures missing in these version(s). "Base for Alec" I had never heard before because it was not on 'You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess' until the re-issue(s). Of course this is my personal preference and some may prefer these mixes.
