This review is from: New Model brite-View CinemaGo : Wireless Set of brite-View CinemaTube Mini (Full 1080p HD media player/streamer/torrent downloader+ dedicated USB WiFi Adapter) (Electronics)
I've already owned a Brite-View BV-5005HD "CinemaTube" 3-in-1 1080p Full HD Multimedia Player/Streamer/Torrent Downloader, Black from brite-View. When I checked its website, I found there's an accessory : A dedicated USB wifi dongle that I can connect my CinemaTube on the network wirelessly. I've tried streaming videos from my NAS with built-in wired connection (an Ethernet cable is included in the package, which is a plus!) and the performance is great. With another $ 25 with free shipping of the USB wifi dongle, I think I can give it a try! Before I made the purchase, I did check the streaming performance report over wifi in brite-view's website, it says pretty much all 720p videos are OK, but 1080i / 1080p you will experience serious lag. I think this is reasonable due to the broadcasting natural of wifi networking and most of my videos are in 720p / 480p. It came with a bubble envelope. I just plugs it to the CinemaTube and no driver needed the CinemaTube can work with it plug-n-play. It found APs easily (it's 802.11n, compatible with my Linksys 802.11n wireless router), even some of my neighbors and with on screen keyboard, I can key in password without any effort. The streaming quality just like it says on website, 720p videos are good enough without any lag. To my surprise, some of my 1080p videos can be streaming without lag too. But when it comes to higher max bitrate, yeah, it failed to stream 1080p videos and you will experience lag. But I'm aware of this limitation and I have no complains about it. If you want to wirelessly stream your videos (of course 720p / 480p) from your computers or NAS to TV via a media player, I will recommend the CinemaTube with its USB wifi dongle. The benefit of selling them separately is that I can use the USB wifi dongle in my PCs if necessary. *** a video update on Feb 22 to show the new UI of CinemaTube and how it works with the USB wifi dongle... the movie is 1080P@23fps

This review is from: New Model brite-View CinemaGo : Wireless Set of brite-View CinemaTube Mini (Full 1080p HD media player/streamer/torrent downloader+ dedicated USB WiFi Adapter) (Electronics)
I picked this player over the WD because of the additional features (such as torrent) & the remote is much nicer (more like a standard full function dvd remote). I agree with all the other positive reviews on the primary features, so look at those for my opinion on those, I'll just focus on the wireless usb NIC. I had a non-broadcasting network, but briteview couldn't link to it this way, so I had to enable broadcast & voila, I have a good DHCP connection. Even though the wireless connection is good, the bandwidth detected isn't enough to stream reasonably HD files smoothly, so there appears to be some sort of on the fly compression that reduces the quality (& thus the bandwidth detection phase).I specifically bought the USB NIC so could avoid running wires, but I may not have a choice since I'm not too happy with the lag. On the other hand, playing files directly off of my 1TB drive plays perfectly! I highly recommend the Simpletech's redrive brand, as these automatically turn on/off with the Briteview (or any PC it's plugged into). Overall, very nice product. PS: The auto preview & automatic starting of the next media file in the selected folder is a very cool feature.

This item ships in two shipments, the player itself and the wireless adapter separately. The player was shipped by fedex 2 day and the wireless adapter by usps first class. For 4 days I thought the wrong item was shipped. When I placed this order there were 30+ of this item in stock but zero of the non-combo units.Once installed this item plays well, I can't say I have every type of video file it claims to be able to play but so far everything I have has played well. The only negative: Video is washed out/too bright when played through the A/V ports and I can't find a setting to tone it down.
