Great Period Piece!,

This review is from: New Monkees (Audio CD)
The production is definitely late 80's, but the songs are good. These guys with the exception of "jared" play and sing on the album. One even has a writing credit. The tv show was lame, but this is a good pop/rock album from the 80's.

I like this album....I think some of the songs have some rather thin production values while others are more solid....there are a lot of contributors to this album. which was good since I hear that some of the New Monkees were working 18 hour days on the set and were drinking too...There are some rather cheesy moments ,such as "I Don't Know" But Larry Saltis sings " Carlene " very nicely....Dino sings the theme song " Turn It Up" with great aplomb until it falls apart at the end.......I thought I sang well on " Boy Inside The Man"....I wish I could have have a second take but I was happy to take the saline solution and the gurney ride out ...All in all an average album...but just in case someone from Warner Brothers is reading this and forgot all about it 5 STARS!!!!!

I remember the show back in the early eighties, but what made itgood was the music. If your were looking for old monkees remakes then you were disapointed, but if you took it at face value you would have said to yourself thes sh~t is good! I lost this tape in a house fire back in 1989-90. lost alot of vinyl. some of it not replaceable. then 8 years ago i saw it in a record store. YEAH BABY!! now you know how good this is. the song "boy inside the man" written by tom cochran of red rider. remember them? "lunatic fring". are you getting a clue yet. Enjoy it for what it is. If you compare it to an old remake you will always be disappointed. thanks art ortiz

Probably the best CD in the world,

All those daggy eighties flourishes, guitar solos and crappy lyrics ("Carlene your words are a prison/ but I don't want out/ every time I go to walk out that door/ I find myself coming back for more... I WONDER IF I'LL EVER GET ENOUGH OF YOU BABY"), goodness it's divine. I would like to write a rock musical featuring songs from it.

I recently remembered/rediscovered the New Monkees when I found their CD still for sale here on Amazon, then hunted up some videos of theirs that have been posted on You Tube for my delectation. I am always up for some 80's nostalgia (even if it wasn't really the best time of my life personally speaking, I still dig a lot of the music/pop culture)and this represents some of the best music - and hottest guys, LOL - that the era had to offer. The show was short-lived, but out of it came some yummy 80's candy pop - high quality music, and Larry, Marty and Dino's voices were great. Larry, in particular, sported a 'do back in that day that he could ONLY have gotten away with during that time period - and still looked smokin'. The songs are, for the most part, about love/desire (fellow girls, look up a New Monkees video on You Tube and see if you wouldn't want Larry singing songs like that to you), with a deeper theme for "Affection", about disaffected, lonely people. All well-produced and performed; this was a fine bunch of musicians who probably were victims of the "controversy" over being called "New Monkees". And, indeed, there is no replacement for Micky, Peter, Davy and Michael. But these guys have "the goods" in their own right. Listen and check 'em out, especially if you are a child of the 80's like myself. Cheers.

The New Monkees were brought in to appeal to a younger generation of kids. It was a spin off from the popular show The Monkees in the sixties. I am afraid this is one of those CD's you will either like or hate. I happen to like it. All the songs were well written and they brought in the best studio musicians in the business including Dann Huff of Giant. All the songs were radio friendly and there were no fillers. The CD came out in 1987 and a tour followed along with a few videos on MTV. So, check out some of their videos on Youtube.Larry Saltis of this band went on to form Tower City. An excellent CD in the vein of Giant, Bad English and Hardline.

I am a child of the 80's.. I wasn't a "Monkee's" fan, but when the New Monkee's came out I LOVED them! My CD got destroyed and I have been heartbroken and searching for it for YEARS and FINALLY i found it! I LOVE the music on this CD and the guys from the group are some of the most genuine, kind hearted, sweet, guys you could ever meet. I wish the show would have lasted longer or that they would have all stuck together and kept the music going. It was very upbeat and did not sound like the Monkees at all. They were not trying to replace the monkees they were just the new wave for the 80's generation. This CD is AWESOME and I am so thrilled to have it back in my collection again! it is one of the best CD's I have ever owned! and it is kid friendly! It is clean cut GREAT music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a MUST have for any music lover!
