Please, note that there are two SEPARATE and DISTINCT products being presented by Amazon here as the same product. I do not know why they are doing this. The product is tagged by Amazon as "New Mormon Studies: A Resource Library 2009 Edition." Note that the product is identified, both by written tag and primary photo, as the 2009 edition. However, the other two reviews provided of the product are of the much older, 1998 edition, NOT the edition that Amazon is selling on this page. One of the customer images is of that older, 1998 version (the case with a Wilford Woodruff and Joseph Smith photo, that is the older 1998 version). So, there are actually no customer reviews here of the 2009 edition.

Now, what are the differences? The CONTENT is the same on both editions--the 1998 edition has over 960 works, the same works which are present on the new 2009 edition. What IS different, however, is still substantial considering that the content is not. The 2009 edition takes advantage of the 11 years worth of technological advances that occurred after the 1998 release. Most importantly, the 2009 edition has a fully searchable database--something which is virtually a must if using this for research (unless you would like to search the tens of thousands of pages worth of material to visually search for a word or phrase that you can now do in seconds with the searchable database). Also, the new edition is more user friendly with modern day operating systems, such as new editions of windows, etc. The 1998 edition is archaic in its menus, interfaces, and user friendly research capabilities. It is possible to find editions of the 1998 version for under $50, and if price is an issue you may want to spring for the older edition to save money. Just be aware of the product you are purchasing.

I cannot put into words how invaluable this CD-Rom is. It is perhaps to single most important addition to my huge LDS library I have. This CD-Rom has everything a Latter-day Saint (or even non-Mormon with an interest in Mormonism) would ever want. For example, the 1830, 1837 and 1840 Book of Mormon, 1833 Book of Commandments, 1835 Doctrine and Covenants, 1851 Pearl of Great Price, all 26 volumes of the Joural of Discourses, all the issues of Dialogue from 1966-1996, and many interesting books from Signature Books, such as "New Approaches to the Book of Mormon: Explorations in Critical Methodology" (a book that is a cut above other books critical of the Book of Mormon, notwithstanding the many disagreements I had with the tome), and many, many more. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended!

If you are serious about studying Mormonism past and present, just look at the list of titles contained on this one disk. You can't lose.
The software provided to navigate this libary looks, feels, and reads archaic. However, a little time invested in referring to the Help Menu will get you up to speed on how to maximize your research experience.
