This review is from: The New Nativism: Proposition 187 and the Debate over Immigration (Hardcover)
While it may be simple to denounce hatred, this book challenges the reader with a study of the complex forces which shaped one of our country's most devastatingly popular political movements to exclude others. Based upon interviews with a surprisingly diverse cross-section of some of the supporters of proposition 187--an initiative to cut off social services to illegal immigrants--The New Nativism is an enlightening analysis of the political, economic, and social phenomena which led to its passage. Robin Dale Jacobson makes impressive inroads into unraveling the troubling way in which Americans fought passionately for a most truly un-American thing.
