5.0 out of 5 stars A must for beginners and collectors, July 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The New Origami: Dozens of Projects Using the Newest Kinds of Origami: Modular, Puzzle, Storytelling, Practical, Symmetrical, and Layered (Paperback)
This is a well-edited origami textbook. The two authors compile a handful of models, from easy-level to the complex-level. Models are carefully selected and most of them are beautiful but not familiar. In my opinion, this is THE BEST origami textbook to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any origami beginner., May 22, 1998
This review is from: The New Origami: Dozens of Projects Using the Newest Kinds of Origami: Modular, Puzzle, Storytelling, Practical, Symmetrical, and Layered (Paperback)
As someone who's been folding for ten years, I was perhaps a little jaded when I first picked up this book. As a purist, I frowned a bit at the occasional design using more than one piece of paper, or involving cutting or glue. But for anyone who wants to get a start in the origami "business", this book is absolutely for you. Along with "Essential Origami" (one of my all-time favorite and most prized origami books), "New Origami" provides an excellent grounding in all the basics of classic folds, while reviewing and introducing newer techniques and ideas. Even if you're a jaded purist like myself, you'll find more than a few things in here to interest you. It's not perfect, but it comes very close.

The diagrams are extremely clear and the illustration of the hands position combined with the text, helps the creation of extraordinaary models. The Pterodont (seen in the cover) produces an amazing result. Just one advice: Use at least 9"x9" paper, so you can get the best effect from the claws. With a little patience and a few days, one can make a very cool mobile with pre-historic animals.

4.0 out of 5 stars a bit difficult for the beginner, but easy to follow, December 17, 2000
This review is from: The New Origami: Dozens of Projects Using the Newest Kinds of Origami: Modular, Puzzle, Storytelling, Practical, Symmetrical, and Layered (Paperback)
The instructions in this book are very clear and concise, but as I had never done origami before, a few of the projects were a bit difficult, and require many sheets of paper. Nonetheless, this is a great book to learn the basics of origami, and progess into the more advanced projects.

i had only seen and tried very basic origami. the book, the new origami explores a lot of different possibilities with paper and also leaves the reader with a lot more to imagine. The instructions are simple and the models made are very fascinating.

Steve and Megumi Biddle seem to have collected a nice array of contemporary folds; I would rank a few of these as high-intermediate. This is one book that I'm happy to have in my collection and I heartily recommend it.
