Outstanding straight ahead jazz,
This review is from: New Orleans Collective (Audio CD)
With the beautiful crescent city devastated by Katrina, one might wonder if a recording like this one is to be produced anymore. This is a reunion of very talented New Orleans related young men, put together by drummer extraordinaire (and producer) Carl Allen. It features a then not so known Nicholas Payton on trumpet, altoist Wessell Anderson (a regular with Wynton Marsalis), piano player Peter Martin, bassist Chris Thomas and Brian Blade on drums; these last three would become Joshua Redman's rhythm section shortly after.Highly recommendable, fresh, hard swinging music, with not only a hint, but the entire essence of New Orleans.
