Editorial Reviews

Mardi Gras - Special Post-Katrina Edition, New Orleans, Louisiana

Each year over a million visitors celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Co-hosts Shane Jacobson and Ashley Arcrement celebrate Mardi Gras' quirks and idiosyncrasies as its inhabitants recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, determined to keep the 150 year Mardi Gras tradition alive. The hosts ride on a float in the parade, attend several Mardi Gras Balls and visit Bourbon Street and the Bourbon Street awards, an event organized by New Orleans' Gay community.

3.0 out of 5 stars not for the classroom May 6, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I'm really glad I previewed this rather than assume it's an average travel video. I managed to skip the parts that were definitely not classroom friendly (The segment about the LGBT community was very racy, which was unfortunate... as a middle school teacher I didn't want to receive parent emails and calls about having shown a movie about men in lingerie LOL). The fact that it's filmed not long after Katrina and focuses on the rebuilding of New Orleans made the film quite interesting and made for a nice segue into Mardi Gras krewes, history, preparation. Overall the film is well made, but requires editing to be classroom appropriate.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mardi Gras --- the movie. April 18, 2014

I am using the movie as a continuous run for my employee benefits fair on Tuesday. We are having a Mardi Gras theme and the movie will lend to the overall festivity. Looking forward to it.

Two twenty-somethings try to give us an idea of what New Orleans is like during Mardi Gras. They try hard but it's worse than a yawner.

Never been to Marti Gras, and my boyfriend wanted me to go so we watched. Really fun for both of us, and I felt like I got a pretty good idea what Marti Gras is all about and what going there would be like,
