A get-down-raunchy good time of New Orleans' music.,
By Brian Lebarton (newstyle@earthlink.net) (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Orleans Swamp [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Seeing "Dr John" get down and play his heart out would've been enough. But to add a legend like "Proffessor Longhair" and the couldn't-be-any-funkier-band "The Meters", it was just a site to see. Earl King was thrown in the mix to give it a little more traditional blues feel, he was great but nervous at times. Dr John's act was reminiscent of a Parliament show with costumes and toga's and goggles and that party atmosphere. The Meters with their bell bottoms and afro's singin' swampy, gritty funk and Proffessor Longhair being in total control of that piano pounding out New Orleans styles could not get any better.
