5.0 out of 5 stars A Lot Better Than I Expected
We are on our second Rottweiler, both rescues, so it's hard to review Urs Ochsenbeins "A New Owner's Guide to Rottweilers" from the perspective of an owner new to Rottweilers. Our household collects, er, accumulates, books; we have almost three feet on dog training and Rottweilers. I decided it was time to clear some space. I started with the thinnest and worst...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special
I read this book which I rented from the library and was not impressed. There are a series ofthese books which I have read alot of. But each one seems no different from the others in the series. This series makes the Golden Retriever seem like it needs the same requirements as the Rottweiler. It is all basic things with very little help.

I started with the thinnest and worst reviewed books first.

Well this book we got from a pet store may be a keeper despite its slight (150pp) size. Ochsenbein takes one from the characteristics of the breed, through selecting a pup and bringing it home and helping it adjust to the loss of its mom and littermates. He then introduces basic training, including house breaking, then entices one with ideas of more advanced training and activities one can pursue. Ochsenbein also includes suggestions on traveling with one's dog, and a fairly extensive section on health care. The book is an excellent introduction to acquiring a Rottie, and ideas on training and caring for the dog.
