The pictures in this book are in black and white and small. If you are a visual learner, as I am, this is not the book to start with. After saying that, I also have to say that if you have even a little experiance with French Beaded Flowers this book is worth the price. There are lots of projects to do and the insturctions are fairly simple. Each and every book on French Beaded Flowers, and there are not to many of them, offers something the others missed. If you are just starting out use one of Darlene Kellys or Donna DeAngles Dickett books because the pictures are better. It makes it easier if you can see a picture of what your flower is going to look like. This book though is a welcome addition to my growning library of books on French Beaded Flowers.

This book has color photos. I found the photos and the lessons on how to make them intriguing, so intriguing in fact that I learnt more about this hobby because of it. I really liked the book, and as I knew nothing about it when I got it, I found that the colour photos and the detail pictures and writeups really helped me learn all I needed to know. To prove my point I uploaded one picture of a hosta and the directions. I hope that you find that useful as I did. I am not sure what the other reviewer was discussing, but perhaps that was a different edition?

If you are looking for something that has a lot of pictures that are step by step then this is not the book for you. It has a few of the finished products but this it doesn't really have any real picture instructions. I am personally ok with this, however someone just beginning may want to look into something a bit easier. Although this would be an amazing book to graduate up to when you want something new to move on to. I quite enjoyed it and even though it was printed in the '60s the bouquets are still gorgeous! Don't just pass it up!

It's a nice book. Many beautiful varied flowers. You pretty much have to have some knowledge on how to start. I don't recommend it for beginners.

I think this is better that her first book, lots of interesting flowers, like tritoma, thalictrum, spirea, and lots of leafy filler stuff-can't have too much filler. Techniques are fairly straightforward. It's always amazing how a bunch of twisted wire loops with beads on them can just say "flower"!
Lots of really tiny b/w photos-I guess it helps to know what the flower looks like beforehand. Virginia Nathanson's instructions are really easy to follow. Wish she had written more books. |
