3.0 out of 5 stars Good Start, but the Information is Mostly Second-hand
This book is a great starting point for raising questions about the events of 9/11. At the very least, for those of you who vehemently disagree with the author's conclusions, it's a great starting point for researching further and perhaps dismissing his claims.

I had been exposed to the idea that 9/11 was planned before I began reading The New Pearl Harbor,...

This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
A theologist raising a lone voice against a high crime of state reminds one immediately of the Nazi scourge and the almost lone voice of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, whom Hitler hanged a few days before the end, to rob him of any sense of victory or redemption that he might have enjoyed.

The Bush regime presented a similarly hard face of universalist missionary zeal, albeit not uniformed, with a messianic vision of putting the world to rights, an enormous military machine with which to do it, curfew-lite civil rights, and a consumer economy in a state of overheated boom. The post-9/11 regime granted the attacks religious icon status, with pictures of brave firemen at Ground Zero being played to children in school across the nation over the sound of the Stars and Stripes every morning.

The so-called War on Terror was declared, although it was strangely at odds with the Americans' indulgent attitude to terror as practised by the US-funded IRA in the UK, with the government of Mrs Thatcher being blown out of their beds at three in the morning at the Grand Hotel, Brighton, and vast swathes of commercial real estate gutted in Manchester and London. Suddenly, America was rising up in righteous fury.

It now seems that America's righteous fury was directed into wars that the Bush regime had long been planning behind the scenes. Indeed, the 9/11 attacks might have been a pre-emptive measure against a war in Afghanistan that the Pentagon was already plotting. Or, perish the thought, did they occur as a pretext for that war?

Dr Griffin, a student of "postmodern process theology", whose latest academic work was entitled "Reenchantment without Supernaturalism: A Process Philosophy of Religion", does not come down either way in his study of the "disturbing questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11".

Neatly timing his book to coincide with the Presidential elections, Dr Griffin is content simply to rehearse all the arguments long published on the internet and to categorise them by stages of criminality, rather like a judge would in a court when considering the sentence. Judgement in this book would start with impeachment, disgrace and exile, and end with stringing from a lamp-post like Mussolini.

If any misdeed mentioned by Dr Griffin in this cool, rational appraisal of the evidence is ever endorsed by a brave whistle-blower, Bush and his team are toast.

Dr Griffin freely admits that he is advocating the writings of others, from Jared Israel and Mike Ruppert to Thierry Meyssan and Paul Thompson, author of the enormous 9/11 timeline. Unlike them, however, he does not get mixed up in detail. For example, he ignores whether there were hijackers or not, because it is not vital to the argument. He never mentions Israel or Mossad, thus avoiding the wrath of the ADL, Harvard university and a huge chunk of the American intelligensia. He sifts out the nuggets and lays them out in a beautifully organised case, categorising the charges by eight degrees of complicity. The logic of the evidence is inexorable, starting with the most screaming fact of all: standard procedure was ignored in all four hijackings, meaning that the airliners cruised to their targets without being intercepted---and the administration first said that no scramble was ordered until after Flight 77 had hit the Pentagon, then changed their story. That very fact is the most egregious case of gross incompetence, yet nobody's head has rolled. Indeed, the incompetence argument is denied every time by the absence of consequences for the culpable.

Dr Griffin presents the evidence that no airliner ever hit the Pentagon, and suggests that Flight 93 was only shot down when it appeared that the "Let's roll!" crowd of rebellious passengers were about to beat the hijackers.

He examines the evidence that the Twin Towers were felled by demolition charges, as was WTC 7, crammed with top-secret offices, seven hours later.

He examines all the evidence of collusion before the event, including the implication of Pakistan's security service, and lists all the benefits to the regime afterwards.

Finally, he takes his whole case and puts all the arguments that dismantle it, e.g. if only Ted Olsen's evidence suggests Flight 77 was hijacked, did Ted Olsen sacrifice his celebrity wife for the White House? This and many other examples could easily be put straight by the independent inquiry that Griffin is calling for. Finally, Griffin turns to the incompetence theory (already scuppered by the complete absence of rolling heads) and points out the enormous number of major coincidences that have to be accepted to allow it. They defy belief.

This book should put the Bush team on the run; perhaps they already are. Things have moved on radically since this work was conceived about a year ago. Bush's enemies have a leader in John Kerry, and they have missiles, in the form of torture photographs and videos obtained from perverts at Abu Ghraib jail. The images are being leaked almost daily, and Bush's poll ratings plunge with every fresh issue. He is holed below the water-line and sinking visibly. Senior Pentagon figures are calling for the whole team to be fired. Their days seem to be numbered.

However, another aspect of Dr Griffin's book holds true. If any of the "disturbing questions" have equally disturbing answers, we can expect a huge affirmation to occur in the form of an atrocity that will apotheosize the dim-witted president, enshrine his administration in the sacred blood of unending war and condemn Grifin's questions to the rubbish dump of history.

5.0 out of 5 stars 9/11 and the True Nature of the Bush Administration, September 24, 2004
By
Ren "Ren" (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
One of the most critical challenges confronting Americans today is to grasp the true nature of the current Bush administration. After four traumatic years in office, G.W. Bush and his handlers, have shown a taste for the aggressive accumulation, and exercise of power, that is unprecedented in U.S. history.

In spite of the seemingly irrefutable official government account of 9/11, the question of government complicity is now no longer in doubt. Three years of diligent civilian research has uncovered hidden facts that clearly show that 9/11 and the subsequent 'war on terror', are not what they appear to be! The Bush administration has effectively used, ironclad secrecy, outright deception, and a compliant mainstream media, to push an official story of 9/11 that effectively conceals the truth. It is not surprising then, that the most vigorous opponent of any type of post 9/11 investigation, was the Bush Whitehouse. What were they trying to hide? A few facts to consider:

a. Prior to the attacks, key alleged hijackers were protected from FBI field investigations, by FBI headquaters.

b. All hijacked plane passenger lists, are five passengers short of the official count, and contain no Arabic names.

c. The fires caused by planes on the upper floors of the twin towers effectively burned out, before the towers fell.

d. FDNY personnel escaping the WTC north tower, reported explosions going off as the tower collapsed.

e. The 40 story WTC building 7 collaped exactly like the twin towers without ever being struck by a plane.

f. All steel from the WTC collapses was hurriedly shipped out of the country without the usual investigations.

g. The FAA destroyed vital 9/11 tape recordings, instead of using this information in the usual investigations.

h. On 9/11/2001, federal agencies including FAA, NORAD, and FEMA, were running hijack simulations including some where planes strike buildings.

i. After 9/11, the Bush administration publicly stated that prior to the attacks, it had felt no need to guard against the threat of planes used as missiles.

j. The technology that will make it possible to use cell phones on commercial airliners, won't be available until 2006.

k. The 'war on terror' decreases U.S. constitutional liberties, but increases terrorist activity.

Mr. Griffin's 'The New Pearl Harbor', is a good place to start coming to grips with the difficult truths of 9/11. It does not go as deeply into the case as others have, but It treats the areas that it does cover objectively, methodically, and does not shy away from asking the tough questions that abound in this national tragedy. The more one coldly examines the available evidence from 9/11, massive deception and government involvement becomes clear.

5.0 out of 5 stars We've Met the Enemy, He Is Us, March 20, 2004
By

This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
Griffin's book is the ultimate wake-up call for America. It's time to "take the bull by the tail and look the facts in the face" (W.C. Fields) and admit "we've met the enemy, and he is us" (Pogo). It's time to take a close look at the official story of 9-11, which is demonstrably false--a Big Lie presumably concocted by those who wanted to drag us into endless war by staging a phoney "New Pearl Harbor". It was the disaster film to end all disaster films, a cinemetographically stunning commercial for the long-planned war in which 3000 extras played the role of collateral damage.

The facts are stunningly clear. The hijackers' mission could not have succeeded without stand-down orders issued by the top of the U.S. military command. The WTC was taken down with explosives in classic controlled demolitions, as FEMA well understood but couldn't come right out and say. The fifteen-foot diameter hole in the Pentagon was obviously caused by a missile, not a 125-foot wide by 40-foot-high 757. And the flight in Pennsylvania that "crashed" was shot down BECAUSE the passengers were regaining control of the plane. One of them was a pilot, and live hijackers would be inconvenient. Those guys weren't Muslim fanatics. They went to a lap-dance club the night before, for Allah's sakes! The Saudi muscle guys came over on CIA snitch visas, as a CIA source involved in the subsequent coverup, I mean "investigation", informed me, and they were garden variety thugs, not martyrs. Keeping all of the above in mind, Bush's weirdly nonchalant behavior at the school in Florida--a location the whole world knew about, from which he would have been quickly evacuated if the nation were really under attack--makes a bit more sense. As does the coverup of Mossad involvement that Justin Raimondo so eloquently discusses in The Terror Enigma. Mossad, like Pakistan's ISI, got key subcontracts, doing certain things that it would be hard to get Americans to do.

Face it, folks. The Emperor forgot to put his clothes on before he strode off to war. Read Griffin's book, then start agitating for a real 9-11 investigation. Before we start spreading "democracy" in the Middle East, we should think about re-establishing it at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where there's a Cover-up, there's a Conspiracy!, October 22, 2005
This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
One of the most critical skills for this age of disinformation is the ability to identify the crafty lies of government disinfo agents, and the mindless ranting of useful idiots. Both of whom really come out of the woodwork whenever the idea of a government 9/11 conspiracy is brought up. These opponents of truth and independent thought like to utilize the argument that any government 9/11 conspiracy would be so vast; it could not possibly be kept under wraps. Therefore such a conspiracy could not possibly exist! If we look closely at the facts of 9/11 however, we see that far from being hidden, government complicity in 9/11 is actually quite easy to uncover! In order to see it, all one has to do is engage in a bit of independent thinking. Unfortunately these days, most people find this extremely difficult! In reality, the government perpetrators who masterminded 9/11 didn't try very hard to hide their involvement. What they did instead was suppress all facts harmful to their official story, as well as make it very unfashionable for people to even contemplate their involvement! Why bother trying to conceal such a vast plot, when it's so much easier to keep people unaware of it, by suppressing all 9/11 facts that directly point to it?

Most people are therefore in the dark about government complicity in 9/11, not because it doesn't exist, but because they blindly trust the mainstream media for information. This blind trust in such a corrupt institution is the conspirator's best insurance that people's attention will be kept away from suppressed 9/11 facts and locked onto the more colorful but phony official cover story instead. It's only by dispensing with the absurd official 9/11 story and examining these suppressed facts, that government complicity in the attacks is exposed. The corrupt mainstream media acts as the national consciousness. By keeping certain 9/11 facts away from the public, people's perception of 9/11 is thereby controlled. The 9/11 cover-up works also because people today have been programmed by daily mainstream media exposure, to disregard hard facts no matter how elementary, in favor of often ridiculous but "official" lies! Where there's official lies, there's a cover-up. Where there's a cover-up, there's a conspiracy! Are there really lies and cover-ups in the official 9/11 story? You bet there are! Here are just a few:

1. Passengers on the hijacked airliners made cell phone calls while in flight. False! Regardless of how dramatic this all sounds, regular cell phones don't work on commercial airliners flying at normal altitudes and speeds. The technology to make this possible won't even be available until next year (2006) at the earliest. Like the 9/11 attacks themselves, these cell-phone calls were staged!

2. Heat from burning jet fuel, was the sole cause of the WTC collapses. False! WTC maintenance workers who survived the North Tower collapse confirm massive explosions in the sub-basement area that closely coincided with the aircraft impacts on the upper floors. FDNY rescuers confirm coordinated explosions "like demolition charges" in the North Tower, as they made their escape. The real cause of the Twin Tower's collapse was highly sophisticated controlled demolition!

3. The U.S. government was caught completely off-guard on 9/11. False! Days prior to, and on the morning of 9/11/2001 government agencies including FAA, FEMA, NORAD, DOD, and the Whitehouse, were engaged in a series of elaborate war games and anti-terror drills involving vast military and civilian resources. One such drill covering New York City, involved hijacked planes used as missiles to attack prominent buildings! With our massive government apparatus thus at high alert on the morning of 9/11, the official story of "Osama Bin Laden and the suicide skyjackers" is seen to be quite ridiculous!

These are just a few of the lies in the official 9/11 story which are easily destroyed by suppressed 9/11 facts. It's now widely understood that the government lied in order to start the current Iraq war. What's not so widely understood is that the government also lied about 9/11 in order to overturn more than two hundred years of constitutional government! The "New Pearl Harbor is therefore a must read for all wishing to examine suppressed 9/11 facts and break free of the world-class deception wrought by the government's 9/11 psyop!

5.0 out of 5 stars 9/11 Not Only Changed The World, It Changed Our Government!, December 15, 2004
This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
The recent rigged U.S. presidential election, is a clear indication that the ballot is no longer respected. Perhaps more Americans will now, wake up to the dangerous changes our government has undergone, since 9/11. We now have unprovoked wars of aggression in Iraq, and Afghanistan, our armed forces have been pushed to the limit, with thousands maimed, and dying, in these Vietnam repeats. Citizens exercising first amendment rights of peaceful protest, are now routinely thrown into jail, at Bush public events! The Bush whitehouse is busy consolidating it's power over all branches of the federal government. In effect, the U.S. now has a one-party dictatorship, with Bush doing his best imitation of 'Fearless Leader'. All of this has taken place because of 9/11, and the Bush administration's supposed efforts to protect us from 'the terrorists'.

Now I don't know about you, but this just seems a bit too fishy for me. While we all seek to support our nation in time of war, this doesn't by any means, require us to become unthinking automatons, or absolve us of the responsibility to protect both our constitution, and the hard earned liberties it enshrines. Afterall, this is supposed to be America, land of the free, and home of the brave, remember? Have we instead become America, the land of the dumb, and home of the scared? After the original Pearl Harbor attacks, FDR said,"We have nothing to fear but fear itself." By contrast, after the 9/11 attacks, we have the Bush administration telling us to be afraid, very afraid! Whose side are they on?

We must deal with the issue of 9/11 realistically. Was it a foreign terrorist attack as we have been told, or was it actually a murderous government assault upon the populace, intended to scare people, into willingly giving up their constitutional rights? The sarcastically named patriot act I, takes away most of our rights. Patriot act II, will take away them all! Congress was scared into passing patriot act I, by a mysterious antrax attack. The antrax was U.S. government issue! Can you see the pattern now? The Bush whitehouse's actions before, during, and after, 9/11, indicate complicity in the attacks. Warned of iminent attack, they did nothing to prevent them, notified of attacks in progress, they did nothing to halt them. Pressed to investigate after the attacks, they fought tooth, and nail, to block any, and all, inquiries! What were they trying to hide? The fact of the matter is, the government's account of what occurred on 9/11 doesn't add up. This also applies to the so-called 'war on terror'. Both are obviously frauds, intended to conceal serious crimes against the nation, and the world! Lest we forget watergate, the president is never above suspicion, whenever high crimes are committed on his watch!

Enter David Griffin's 'The New Pearl Harbor'. This book is a serious attempt by a respected scholar to come to grips with the glaring descrepancies between the official account of 9/11, and the actual facts of the case. For this reason alone, it is a valuable work, that should be widely read. Understanding the truth of the 9/11 attacks is vitally important due to the post 9/11, government assault upon freedom. The overthrow of constitutional checks and balances, by ideological politics, and blatant corruption, are sure signs, that the federal government is now in the hands of criminals. With patriot act I and II, the survival of the constitution, is now at stake. It is not unheard of, for criminals in high office, to use terrorism to scare the people, and seize dictatorial power. It has been done before, and it appears to be happening now in the U.S. Yet most Americans seem too misguided, to see this. 'The New Pearl Harbor' is great way to began to see 9/11 for what it was.

This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
As a former journalist, I am incredulous that this overwhelming abundance of evidence, all of which points to a story of incredible magnitude, has not been seriously and thoroughly investigated by the press. Watergate, exposed by Woodward and Bernstein, potentially pales into insignificance in comparison with the implications of the data and arguments offered in this extraordinarily well-researched and clearly written book. Prof. Griffin's courage and tenacity must be admired. This is a quick and chilling read. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Letting bad things happen in order to achieve great goals, April 2, 2004
By
James S. Ackerman "Jim Ackerman" (Bloomington,, IN United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
Until reading this book I have despised any conspiracy theory that involved persons in any American administration doing harm to their fellow Americans. But Dr. Griffin, a noted professor at the prestigious Claremont School of Theology, has written a dispassionate study of the many inconsistencies that are involved in the official version of what happened on 9/11, our surveillance of Middle Eastern terrorist networks before that time, and our pursuit of the true perpetrators since then. For example, when Flight 11's transponder went off at 8:20 a.m. and flight attendants reported at 8:21 a.m. that it had been hijacked when it turned 90 degrees to the south, F-16's are routinely supposed to scramble and head it off within ten minutes--long before it reached the North Tower. There is an average of 100 scramblings per year. We went zero for three on 9/11. How could we not protect against a plane going directly towards the Pentagon or the White House? One starts this book, wanting with all one's heart to believe that it was incompetence or surprise that day, but there are just too many other really strange things (about twenty more) noted by Griffin that warrant an even more complete investigation than what is going on now (April 2). Why? Because a lot of these elements, briefly captured by one media source or another, were swept away in our focus on the war and not brought back into the national consciousness. I must agree with the professor who wrote that "it is rare, indeed, that a book has this potential to become a force of history." This slim book is a MUST READ!

This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
I've just spent an entire night and part of a day rereading and rereading Professor Griffin's thoroughly researched, judiciously argued, and incredibly disturbing book. Griffin takes on the task of investigating the official account of the 9/11 attacks, asking questions that beg to be asked, ferreting out inconsistencies in White House, Pentagon, and State Department reports, analyzing possible scenarios, and asking what kinds of evidence would properly address unanswered questions.

Griffin invites the reader to examine two possible explanations to account for the inconsistencies: the "incompetence" theory and the "complicity" theory. The former rests on the assumption that stupid mistakes were made both before and after the attack. The latter rests on the assumption that false official accounts were made about advance notice of the attacks and/or that after-the-fact obstruction of investigations took place. Griffin's conclusion is that it's reasonable to suppose that complicity rather than incompetence is the more likely explanation, and he painstakingly makes his case by examining five major challenges to the official version of what happened.

On the second anniversary of 9/11, Donald Rumsfeld made the shocking public claim that the attacks were really blessings "in disguise" (from the book's forward by Richard Falk). Rumsfeld's point was that the US was motivated by the attacks to ramp up its military strength; this was the "blessing" he referred to. But if even part of Griffin's analysis is on the money, the "blessing," which has led to great subsequent loss of life and expenditures of monies in Afghanistan and Iraq, is built on a deception.

A frightening, but not implausible, possibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing questions that must be fully investigated NOW, March 10, 2004
By
P+T Johnson-Lenz (Lake Oswego, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
What REALLY happened on 9/11? In "The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11," David Ray Griffin compiles a compelling case against the so-called official account, inviting us to consider the evidence and think it through for ourselves.

Griffin explores in depth the disastrous failures on that day to execute well-established FAA and military standard operating procedures designed to protect us from air attack. He considers the physical evidence, the shifting, conflicting, and inconsistent official accounts, and the actions and statements explainable only as either gross incompetence or official complicity. He meticulously presents extensive evidence, documentation, and reasoning from diverse researchers, linking it all together into something far more powerful -- a clear and dispassionately reasoned framework for a full and conclusive investigation.

With eight levels of possible government complicity in mind, he thoroughly examines arguments for and against both official and revisionist accounts. He often follows each line of reasoning to its apparent conclusion, only to challenge it with evidence or conclusions from some unexpected quarter, and then to challenge that, and so on, until everything is connected in a tightly reasoned network of alternative explanations, somewhat reminiscent of television detective Lt. Columbo's relentless "Just one other thing . . ." approach.

His bottom line: Congress, the press, and our best investigative journalists need to conduct a full, thorough, well-funded investigation of what really happened on 9/11. "The New Pearl Harbor" jump-starts that work with a research agenda complete with questions and specific experiments to answer them. Which of the conflicting storylines of Griffin's branching arguments our country will follow into history will depend on what evidence the investigation proves true. Griffin charts multiple, mutually reinforcing paths to most conclusions, each based on different events and evidence. The full investigation of even one of these may well prove sufficient to resolving the issue.

Buy this book and read it carefully, even with only a 30% open mind as Richard Falk urges in his forward. Examine the evidence. Draw your own conclusions. If you come away as we did, seriously questioning the official account and compelled to take action, demand a full investigation. Send a copy to your newspaper, call your Congressional delegation, tell friends and family, and spread the word widely.

The future of our troubled democracy depends on finding out what really happened on 9/11.

This review is from: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11 (Paperback)
Whatever your political views or affiliations, you should read this book. The official 911 explanation doesn't add up. Too many oddities and coincidences. Too many unanswered questions. The author doesn't claim to know what actually took place but presents the timeline and known facts in a way that if you don't come to your own conclusions, you will at least see that the official story doesn't hold water. You may find this book to be very disturbing, but don't let that stop you from reading it.
