A lifelong love affair, May 25, 2001

A sadness has persisted throughout my life since Toulouse left Chicago for coast. I thought I was free of them but I have since been diagnosed with a rare form of tinitus where instead of a ringing in my ear, all i hear is Checks and Credits, persistently and endlessly. A new sound, indeed! I knew them as Autovoles and loved them as Kitchen Witch: they are Toulouse. Buy this rekkid.

The springtime of my funk!, April 17, 2001

Yo! Toulouse forever, or at least for now -- this stuff is NOW, as they used to say, dadio! What I'm getting at is this: Toulouse has the verve and drive of old-skool art-punk and the devil-don't-care elegance of post-modern urban indie-pop. A nearly impossible combination hit upon at random and elaborated with control and vitriol. The best thing since / and maybe the flipside of / Yo La Tengo's latest masterpiece. Hope you feel the same!
