The New Potty a Kid Favorite,

This review is from: The New Potty (Look-Look) (Paperback)
My son loves this book! We actually now have two - one for home and one when he travels to the sitter or grandparents' house, etc. The picures are colorful and attract your immediately. The story is simple and gets the whole family involved in the potty training process. It is very positive and easy to understand so little ones can follow the meaning. I (and my son) highly recommend it. My son feels it is a 'must read' when going to the potty.

The New Potty,

What a great learning tool! My daughter loves this book. She is successfully potty trained! Yeepee! This book describes everything, even the time when purchasing the potty chair. It even describes "accidents", which let her know that they will happen and that it is OK. I love the way the entire family helps with the potty training. This will be very helpful when my younger child starts potty training! Great book! Good luck!

Disappointed!,

This review is from: The New Potty (Little Critter) (Look-Look) (Paperback)
Do yourself a favor and check this book out from the library before you decide to buy. I grew up with Little Critter books and we've been reading them to our 2 year old most of his life. He just loves them! However, we just got The New Potty and I am not impressed. Truth be told, I don't like most of the Gina Mayer/Mercer Mayer collabs. The illustrations are not as well done and the stories come off as either preachy or a bad attitude. In this particular book, we have Little Critter narrating about his little sister's experiences learning the potty. It's full of comments about how it's "weird" that sister practices sitting on the potty while watching TV, how he doesn't think she looks any cuter than him, and how he thinks she still acts like a baby, even when Mom and Dad say she's a big girl now once she's successfully using the potty. Sorry, none of that is helpful in giving my son a positive potty-learning experience. He does not have any siblings to understand the sibling-rivalry comments, and I highly doubt at age 2 he would grasp them even if he did. I don't need him thinking he's "weird" for practicing sitting on the potty wherever he feels like. And I don't need him getting the idea that even once he masters this big step in growing up, someone might still think he's just a baby. We're going to have to skip over many of the lines or make up something different when we read him this book.
I wish Mercer had done a potty book long ago, on his own. His style of effortless, entertaining storytelling, while gently teaching life lessons, is sadly missing from these later books.

"Can't Go Wrong With Little Critter",
By
This review is from: The New Potty (Little Critter) (Look-Look) (Paperback)
We are huge fans of Little Critter, so I knew we couldn't go wrong with The New Potty. The story contains typical elements found in many potty books: introduction to the new potty, playing with the new potty, accidents, transition to underpants, and eventual success. What sets all Mayer books apart? The critters talk and act like real life children. And the illustrations are a hoot! Such as the look of terror on Little's Sisters face when greeted with the pink "Critter Potty." Or Little Critter hollering for Mom when his sister misses the potty and almost wets his foot. And that pet mouse...We have read almost every potty book available on the market as of 9/2003 (over two dozen!). Most fit into two categories: INSTRUCTIONAL books that introduce the skills needed to master the potty; and those that are primarily ENTERTAINING, for children who understand what is supposed to happen on the potty, but need extra time to make it happen. This book contains a little instruction and a lot of entertainment. Try it!

Worried That Your Child Will Never Use the Toilett?,
This review is from: The New Potty (Look-Look) (Paperback)
We bought this book as well as several other books, when we noticed our child wasn't buying into our advice about how convenient it is for him as well as his parents that he use the toilett, we resorted to this method and it seemed to work all by itself with little influence from the adults. We simply sat down and read it to him and voila.. it worked. I have no idea which book hat the most influence but this was one of them.

This is a great book for little ones just getting to know the potty. We read other M. Mayer books to our daughter,so she can relate to this one. The book is great as it has the older brother participating in teaching the little sister to use the potty (even if your child doesn't have a sibling). I found this little critter book to be kid friednly vs. some other the other choices available that appeared to be a little more intense.

This is from her older brother's perspective,

Although I still read this book to my daughter, it's from the perspective of a big brother. Do you see the brother in the cover? It's too bad his expression as he watches his sister inspect her new potty isn't on the cover. I thought this was going to be about the girl critter. I suppose I should have read more about it, but I was in a hurry trying to order her potty and some books at the same time. Critter books are great, but seem to be from the boy's perspective. Not for girls learning to potty, unless they have an older brother!

Great book for a toddler,
This review is from: The New Potty (Little Critter) (Look-Look) (Paperback)
My 2 1/2 year old loves these books by Mercer Mayer. Her first book was the I Was So Mad (Look-Look) book and we had to read it every night and she slept with it. I bought this book and several others by Mercer Mayer and she loves them just as much. They are nice because they are affordable and in paperback which makes them easy to bring along on trips. They also all seem to have simple, fun, and easy to understand messages for a toddler and they touch upon the different feelings and experiences a toddler is going through. She also loves the The New Baby book which was great for when her little sister joined the family.

If you like the Little Critter series and you are currently potty training then this is the book for you. As usual Mercer Mayer deals with a subject in a humorous and fun way that kids will enjoy.

My two year old son enjoyed reading this book, it has kept his attention. It has helped him learn about potty basics. He gets the concept but still isn't that ready to be a willing participant in the potty process. It is a fun book for us to read together.
