The definitive explanation of the Pritikin Program,
By Wu Wei (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Pritikin Program (Mass Market Paperback)
Superb. This book covers every aspect of the Pritikin program, from diet to exercise to relaxation techniques. The book is divided into three parts. An introductory part is followed by a detailed discussion of nutrition including fats, cholesterol, salt, protein, fiber, and carbohydrates. The final section goes into detail, almost 300 pages, about how to follow the Pritikin program. A chapter on attitude is followed by the classification of foods into three categories ("go, caution, stop"). Next is a discussion of what foods to buy and stock in the kitchen, followed by over a hundred pages of menus and recipes. The next two chapters explain how to stick to the program in difficult situations like restaurants, holidays, and trips. An excellent chapter on exercise is followed by a discussion of stress-reduction. Even though this is not Robert Pritikin's latest book, "The New Pritikin Program" is still the best and most complete explanation of what the Pritikin Program is.

The superb Pritikin program,
By
This review is from: New Pritikin Program (Mass Market Paperback)
In the 1970's Nathan Pritikin said that the normal cholesterol was 150 mg. and he presented extensive proof. It took 30 years for the medical profession to decide that he was right.
The idea that most heart attack victims have normal cholesterol is based on the 1970 thinking that the normal cholesterol was up to 250 mg. As the Framingham Study showed, you can't find anyone with a prolonged cholesterol of 150 mg. who gets a heart attack. In the 1970's Nathan Pritikin pointed out that diet causes far more disease than just atherosclerosis. It has only been recent that the medical professional is catching up with his brilliance although it may take another century to fully appreciate the accuracy of what Nathan Pritikin said. The Pritikin diet is not a zero fat diet, the foods found in nature contain several percent fat, and that is what human beings were intended to eat. Robert Pritikin has deteailed the Pritikin diet in this fantastic work.

Poorly printed Pritkin,
This review is from: New Pritikin Program (Paperback)
The last couple of chapters are just not printed in the book. I don't know how far spread this misprint is but it is definitely a disappointment.
