I had mixed feelings at times while reading "The New Reagan Revolution: How Ronald Reagan's Principles Can Restore America's Greatness" by Michael Reagan with Jim Denney. The book has a Foreword by Newt Gingrich and is also endorsed on the cover by Rush Limbaugh. Therefore, you can tell right now that if you are a liberal, die hard democrat, or just someone who leans that way, you are not going to like this book much. Unless you are reading it to learn more about conservative principles that Ronald Reagan stood for. If you are a conservative, you are going to enjoy this book much more. I think most people will figure that out by the cover, but wanted to make it clear that if you like this book or not will really be decided by your political views.

Most people that know me also know that I really respect President Reagan, and that I had an opportunity to spend thirty minutes one-on-one with him, discussing a variety of topics. I've also met Michael Reagan at one of his speeches, and enjoyed the speech and the short conversation with him. So why mixed feelings about this newest book of his? Parts I really enjoyed, and other times I felt he went a bit too far with the bashing of democrats and liberals. That's why.

It is a well researched book, with many pages of footnotes and references for those that want to check on the topics in the text. And to be fair, Michael Reagan's criticism is not strictly party line. He criticized republicans in this book too. And while I understand pointing out what you believe is wrong with some beliefs and policies, I enjoyed the positive aspects of the book about President Reagan much more.

Well written book that shares little known insight into one of the greatest leaders of our time. Michael clearly states his Dad wasn't perfect, but he boldly led and absolutely believed in freedom for all, and in the American ideals. a must read for today.

What sets this book apart from the litany of conservative tomes are the personal stories about Michael and his father mixed within Michael's explanation of conservatism. There is great insider information in here, including a violent conflict between Michael and Charlie Black, Ronald Reagan's campaign manager in 1976 and during the beginning of Reagan's 1980 campaign. It really shows the divide within the Republican party at the time that many younger politicos may not realize. It shows that even while President, conservatism was a minority within the Republican party and the degree to which the Reagan camp was considered a thorn in the side of the Republican establishment.

Michael's experience with his father also gives him a mature outlook for conservatism. Michael talks about times when his father was willing to take half a victory rather than none at all, and how this was born out of a confidence that conservatism would be victorious in the long term, not in any disloyalty to conservative ideology. Michael also describes the importance of building coalitions on issues, even if these new partners disagree with you on other issues. This is a bracing juxtaposition against the "purist" movement in conservatism now where ideological purity is more important than a willingness to get things done.

Michael Reagan has encapsulated his Father's Legacy in this book with a structure for us to follow. There are few books on Ronald Reagan that I do not own, and this has rapidly been elevated to one of my favorite. This book shows how the Principles of Ronald Reagan set guidelines and motivations for us today in politics, and in our lives.

Michael and I would disagree on a few things, but all in all- we are eye to eye. The strong warning to Tea Partiers to not become a third party should resonate throughout the Country. The need for Our Government, and the Republicans therein to think and focus on what it means to be a Republican AND a Conservative cannot be more clear than right now. We face an absolute crisis of identity as a nation right now, and this is a blueprint in clear and concise words as to on what our focus must be.

I am sure that there are many just waiting to shell this book based solely on the name of Reagan on the cover. They will not read it, nor will they care what words are contained within. Pay no attention to it. The book is not perfect, nor was Reagan perfect, but his guidance still holds true as We approach his 100th Birthday. Add this book to your library and reinforce your Principles.

I received this book as a gift and didn't think it would be that interesting. I expected a dry political manual. I could not have been more incorrect. This is a fascinatiing book full of information and anecdotes told by someone who knew Ronald Reagan best. Michael Reagan draws a fascinating outline of Reagan's conservative principals while both discussing their historical context and applying them to today's problems. This is a great read.

This is one of the best and most informative books I've read in the last couple of years. Not only does Michael Reagan offer many insights to his father's ideology, but he also delves into a lot of information on George Soros, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, and Saul Alinsky -- and the ties they have to the progressive liberals. Finally, for all of you die-hard republicans, let me warn you that the book takes several much needed swipes at the current mantra of the GOP and how it has morphed away from true conservatism and libertarianism.
