Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The New Revised Standard Version Bible (Hardcover)
Just what the topic line says - NRSV - both testaments. No surprises here. Conservatives, fundamentalists, KJO's - no need to be repulsed that it's not a King James. It made no such claim to start with.
Seems less formal than the original RSV so if you're used to that version, the differences will be obvious. The gender-inclusive thing seems to pervade. But in a few cases, a quick look at Bauer / Thayer / Liddel & Scott reveals that no damage was done to literalness. At least for the few cases in which I checked. It does not have the Apocrypha - again no surprises. There is a version that has the Apocrypha, so be sure to specify that one before hitting the "place order" if that's the one you want. Binding seemed very good for a hardback. Whether you like it better than something else will be your call. Frankly, I went back to my RSV / NOASB and the NRSV has been donated to my local county library. |
