5.0 out of 5 stars high school...
this is my first blake nelson's book and i am not disappointed. As i read through this book, somehow i'm connected.
the author really put this book in perspective and i enjoyed it alot.
at the beginning of the book, i was a little bored but after i got into the middle part, i couldn't put it down because it just seemed too realistic as if i go to Evergreen...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Ive read better
This book was an okay book. It was a light reading book. Great storyline, characters, etc., but I have read better. It is a nice YA book; however, there wasnt anything in there for me to take with me in life, or there wasnt anything so catchy that I will never forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for teens, young people, or just about anyone, June 15, 2004

I absolutely loved "The New Rules of High School." The wide variety of characters, with contrasting, but unique and very real and developed personalities made this book a must read. The plot is somewhat simple, but so very compelling. This book follows the main character,Max through his senior year of high school. During this he struggles to define himself as an individual after his breakup with a longtime girlfriend. The story of Max is very believable and readers will be able to easily connect with one or more of the characters in the book. Max's struggles throughout the story seem common and are very real. This story is a real page turner and you will not be able to put it down until you have finished it. I loved this book and can not to read more works by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Honest and Poignant Portrayal of Your Typical High School, January 25, 2004

Once again, Blake Nelson has blown me away with an accurate portrayal of suburbia and public high school. A big fan of his since reading the book, Girl, I find that Nelson writes from the heart and gives each character in his stories the "breath of life". I related to the characters in the story and found myself often replacing their names with that of my peers. I definitely enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, August 11, 2003

Max really loves Cindy but when he tries to get her back it doesn't work. And meanwhile all his friends are the freaks of the school, even though he is straight edge. This book is so realistic about teenagers and they way they act and talk and think. It is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Story, November 19, 2011
This isn't the first book I've read by Blake Nelson, but it is the first one I've bought off of Amazon. I first checked Prom Anonymous out of the library a couple of years ago, and after I read that, I knew I had to read more.

Max is the kind of guy who does the "right" things. He's dating a great girl, he's in a bunch of clubs and organizations, and he's on track to become the editor of the school paper. But one day he breaks up with his girlfriend without being able to explain why. This book shows the path that he goes down as he tries to figure out his life and what he stands for.

I don't even know how to explain it, but this book just flows really well. Something about the way Nelson writes makes it so... real. Max seems like the perfect guy, training to go off to some great college and be successful. But he questions his decisions and choices just like everyone else.

Who would I recommend it to? Everyone. The kinds of things that Max deals with are things that everyone deals with. I honestly think that everyone can get something out of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It, December 20, 2009
Max is this straight A type who then decides to rebel and hang out with some weird people and go downtown and meet the cool girl Eleanor. This is like the flipside of GIRL which is my other favorite book by Blake Nelson. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Rules, June 9, 2006
This was probably one of the best books I've ever read. The way the writer had the character going through all the problems that we as teenagers have to deal with every day is really awesome. As Max transitions from the uptight person he is in the beginning of the book to the laid back sort of party guy he is near the end, it all makes perfect sense and its not like in your face about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars You WILL like this book!, March 27, 2006

"The New Rules of High School" was a very good book. You really get into Max, the main character's, life. I started to care as soon as he broke up with his girlfriend in the first chapter. I was immediately thinking `what is he DOing' and then `oh god, what a mistake' right along with Max... He's sort of finding his crazier less goody-two-shoes self while still devoting an ever decreasing amount of time to editing the school newspaper. This is definitely a book for both genders, told by a guy but still totally appealing to girls (I'm a girl). So, basically, no matter who you are, you WILL like "The New Rules of High School"!
