Not what I was Looking for,
By Dog Lady (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Secrets of Successful Show Dog Handling (Paperback)
This book would be helpful for anyone beginning showing dogs. They really needn't know anything. If you already know what a show is, how to enter and have been in the ring before, you're probably not going to get much out of this. I have a few books on showing that far outwiegh this one. It's basic, simple and for complete novices only...It is written well, and is easy to understand. If this is to be your first book on dog showing, then it will provide you with enough info to get you started. I preferred, The Winning Edge: Show Ring Secrets (Howell Reference Books) and Tricks of the Trade: From Best Intentions to Best in Show, Revised Edition

This is a great book for anyone learning how to handle dogs. It gives you great pictures of how you are supposed to stack dogs. Other books tell you how to do it, but lack pictures. This also uses a variety of breeds in their pictures. It goes over stacking on the ground vs. stacking on the table. It also does a good job explaining the dog show world, which can be confusing for newcomers. I highly recommend this book...even more than George Alston's book (another great one!).

This is the first show book I read. It was also a previous edition. When I finished the book I searched until I found an updated version and bought it right away. Even the old book was a bounty of information. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is beginning in the show ring. It's easy to read with a lot of really great pointers that still apply today. I read the whole thing!

After having read just about every book on handling and dog shows, in addition to attending a number of handling seminars, I wasn't impressed with this book. I found it to be just an average summary of the dog show process and what it takes to compete. This information can be found in any number of other books out there (which also offer a significant amount of additional information) or on the AKC website. If you are looking for a good general overview of dog show handling, start here. Otherwise, look somewhere else, such as the books by George Alston or Pat Hastings.

This is a great book if you are just starting to show dogs, or a long time veterian of the sport. It tells you everthing about breading, to how to show your dog. The author of this book is Peter Green, he is the top dog in the dog show world. If anyone know's how to show a dog it is this guy. I reccomand this book to anyone who has an intrest in dog showing and wants to learn more about it.

Have the basics but ready for the next steps?,
This review is from: New Secrets of Successful Show Dog Handling (Paperback)
Starting my second show dog's career, after blundering my way through with my first one, Peter Green and Mario Migliorini gave me excellent tips and strategies to make the handler pay more attention to his/her job. I love the section on stacking - wonderful photos to show the sublties that beginners don't see. An excellent book for someone with the basic knowledge already down who wants to take their showing to the next level.

Great book for the learning dog handler. Combine it with a book like "Eye For a Dog" and you are on your way to understanding America's second longest running sport (next to horse racing).

I am a novice dog handler and learned so much from this book. I do wish it had "more" of a variety of breed pictures for stacking but the content in this book was very educational from training to getting into the show ring!
