Great beginners book,

I actually bought this book while I was trying to decide which serger I wanted to buy (since it details features available in the many types of machines) - and now that I actually have the serger it is even more helpful. It is great for a beginner because it details how to fix tension problems, which is something I think everyone new to serging has problems. It also tells how to do many simple decorative techniques. I will definitely be using this book as a reference even though I do not own a Singer serger. Lots of pictures, lots of color. A great book to go with your serger manual.

Lots of Photos,

This review is from: The New Sewing with a Serger (Singer) (Paperback)
This book is similar to all the Singer sewing series books. It has many color photos that allow you to compare your serging efforts to the samples. It also has step-by-step construction guides for several projects. I would have preferred more indepth coverage for the novice serger user. For example, I'm still fuzzy on creating a rolled hem. If you plan to buy several books, this is a good choice. I'm not sure it can stand alone if you have many questions.

Standard reference for anyone beginning serger sewing,

This is a revised edition that covers more current information on sergers such as the now common three-thread mock safety stitch, information about dual feed and various knit fabrics, and an added section on edgings and decorative effects. The latter is useful, especially for polar fleece and other non-raveling fabrics where a decorative serged edge is a nice effect. This book is often recommended in classes and I find it a good reminder on what edging to use, and the color pictures of which thread does what are helpful.

I am a novice to the serger world. This book is fantastic if you own a serger.
I bought a new Quantum Singer Serger last month (I did a lot of research-didn't want an expensive one so I bought this one), and after hours of trying to get it to work, I finally did a couple of overlocking projects. They went well, however, the serger instructions that came with the serger, is not enough information to complete the job. I bought this book thru Amazon, and it is worth it's weight in gold! It walks you thru step by step on how a serger works. It then guides you thru when to use the different types of pressure feet and how they work with woven fabrics and the different types of threads available for your serger. I am still reading this book; I sit in bed every night and read a few pages. It has opend my mind on how these little power machines can be so helpful with regular sewing, or on some projects, they stand alone. It is a wonderful book to use for reference when your machine gobbles up your fabric and your needle is stuck. It guides you thru on how to remove these issues. I highly recommend this book; the reviews on Amazon are worth taking the time to read. These are consumers that have taken the time to use their product and rate them at a consumers level. Thank you for taking the time to read this review.

New to Serging,

This review is from: The New Sewing with a Serger (Singer) (Paperback)
Santa gave me a Singer Serger for Christmas. I had never had one so when I saw the Singer book on serging I decided to get it. I think it is a great book. It has great photos with the different stitches so you can tell what is wrong if you have a problem. It also explains how to sew different items with your serger. I've already sewn several napkins and several neck scarves for gifts. I love my new serger and have used "The New Sewing with a Serger" for a reference book. I highly recommend it. Marie Owens

I have wanted a serger for a long time and after spending lots of time on Amazon researching, I bought one. The instruction book that came with the serger shows the basics but this book fills in all the gaps. I learned more from this book than the instruction manual and playing with the new machine put together. There are lots of great tips like you don't have to buy 4 spools of thread for every project, you can use bobbins from your conventional machine for the needle thread and lots, lots more. If you are new to serging, this book is a must. It takes away all the intimidation of serging for the first time and gets you going and making your very own garments. Highly recommended!

I think this book should come with the Singer Quantumlock. Buy it. The manual that comes with the machine isn't enough. This book, along with the online materials from Singer, will make your serger usable and enjoyable. (The book may also be used with other types of sergers.) Great photos. I use this book to figure out how to adjust tension and to figure out which type of stitch to use.

Great serger "basics" book,

I am new to serging and need the basics. After checking out 6 books from the library, I decided this was the one to buy. The best feature for me are the clear pictures of well-formed stitches along with poorly formed stitches with the adjustment needed to correct them. Just yesterday, this book helped me do a lovely rolled hem.

I recently aquired an older Singer serger. This book explained the possibilities of a serger and how to do them. It also showed me what different styles and models of sergers can do. The pictures are well done

This book has lots of basic information, and best of all plenty of pictures. I purchased it to go with my new singer serger. It was exactly what I needed to get me going. I would strongly recommend it to anyone purchasing a singer ( or any other) serger. It does go beyond basic, teaching some creative stitching, and fun projects.
