The New Story of O,
By A Customer
This review is from: The New Story of O (Paperback)
This story is terribly written and miserably fails to come near any resemblance of the O we know. Clearly this new O is a composite character that weakly incorporates O's history, but with no consistency of character to the real O. If the reader appreciated the originally translated version of this story, definitely stay away from this one...unless you're just looking for a trashy reading!

A crime against a classic... and against LOVE,
By R.A.B. (Peru) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Story of O (Paperback)
The very ESSENCE of the "Story Of O" is the heroicity of a total surrender in Love. This book exploits the name of a classic to turn it to a personal, egoistical seeking for power (and not love). It isn't worth a star! (...it's a pity that Amazon doesn't include a 0 star classification)

For those who for years have loved "The Story of O", this book is an affront. It is badly written and emphatically not erotic. Please save your money.

Elegant writing style but lacking quite a bit...,

This review is from: The New Story of O (Paperback)
This book is really a very odd mix of frank erotica in an almost prim and proper stylized world. ( Frankly, the writing style almost feels a bit prim and proper which is a big contrast to the subject matter.)I read this book thinking it was the original, not the *new* one... It's an odd mish-mash of a story surrounding the personal destruction of a man, his familY...several others. Although there is an alternate ending scenario that I never quite *got*... in a chapter after the last chapter. Bizarre. At a time when I read several Anne Rice books, I decided to read this book thinking it was the classic version. This book has alot of frank material. That may or may not be desirable to you. The story is really a bit confusing and not very interesting. The characters are not at all likable. I don't see this as a *well written* book. I think there is too much lacking in the story in general and the characters..The writing style is interesting and feels *elegant* even when the subject matter is a bit more ....base... Perhaps, I would have been better off with the other version but after reading this one I didn't even seek it out. This book kind of put me off the whole *O* thing...

Stick to the Old O.,
By Elagabalus (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Story of O (Paperback)
This crass attempt at a 'sequel' to the Story of O, offers mild titillation to the uninformed reader only, providing that reader has never read the original classic. Otherwise it serves no purpose except to part fans of the original with their money; and leave them disgusted in the process.
Let's see... in the "New" story, O has become a dominatrix who sells her unique skills (acquired how? it's not explained) to rich clients, as a weapon against their rivals. In this instance, the new, confident, independent O (as opposed to the very dependent and needy woman of the classic novel---a miraculous transformation, again never explained) applies her trade to bring down the head of her client's rival corporation, or some such claptrap. One-by-one, O proceeds to pick-off the rival's family; paying special and lengthy attention to the attractive young daughter. The other members are 'corrupted' by O (how this will serve or benefit the client is yet another mystery) as smoothly and quickly as an assassin knocking off contract kills. And that's all there is to this book. The Original novel reveled in its flouting morality, and in its challenging and deliberately disturbing view of love; this book merely parrots 21st Century moralisms while, contradictoraly, attempting to be 'naughty.' Written by a man, it's almost as if the author could not stand the Story of O, and set out to erase it by penning this tripe. Yay! The victim has become the victimizer; woman triumphs over man. How insightful. How creative. How very boring...

New Story Almost As Good As Original,
By A Customer
This review is from: The New Story of O (Paperback)
In this book, a sequel to the original Story of O, we find O now wielding the whip instead of being its victim. She has left the brothel of Roissy and now is in control of her destiny, and in control of seemingly everyone around her. Her life now revolves around a quest for power, and she demonstrates this power by dominating and destroying an All-American family.
Unfortunately, O's domination of the young American woman, Jane, seems to be nothing more than a tired re-play of parts of the original story. We are not holding our breath waiting to find out what happens to Jane, because we already know what is going on. The author of this story, listed as Annonymous, shows great creativity and ability in the rest of the book, but does a truly disappointing job when describing Jane's adventures.
Nevertheless, if you are a fan of the original text, I would definitely recommend reading this sequel. It isn't as good as the original, but much of it is exciting, and it proved to be better than I thought it would be.
