Finally a Tribute to Alternative Pioneers!,

Finally a Tribute to Alterna/Goth Pioneers Love and Rockets!
The Smiths, The Cure and Love and Rockets were the Alternative/Indie Pioneers of the 80's & 90's. When 120 minutes on MTV was the place to find great new bands these guys were way ahead of the curve. From Goth to Pop to Experimental Electronica and Folk. L&R did it all first. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club would not exist without them. Frank Black,The Dandy Warhols,Flaming Lips and Maynard from Tool all pay tribute on this comp packed with songs from a wide array of diverse Artists but, some of the stand out tracks are from newer acts like; Blaqk Audio (Davey & Jade of AFI) doing a more modernized electro version of "No New Tale to Tell". War Tapes does a dark and rocking " Love Me" that harkens back to L&R's Bauhaus roots. Other great tracks show the softer side of their career with Ian Moore/Lossy Coils doing "Sweet FA". Snowden, Astra Heights and Vex all turn in well played and ear catching tracks. A great way to learn about the roots of Alterna music while discovering some great new bands.

Some great covers of Love and Rockets classics. From the surprisingly catchy Better Than Ezra to Blaqk Audio this is a fun comp with some amazing artwork.

Good cd. I got it just to hear the quality and sound of puscifer's recording (which is AWESOME), and the rest of the cd is good and has personality and a good sound.

Love & Rockets was one of those influential bands from my youth and it's so great to hear this tribute from so many great and modern influential bands to L&R. And while most tribute albums leave the listener really preferring the original work to the tribute, there really isn't a track on this album that doesn't stand on its own and in its own way! I'm really glad I stumbled upon this album!

I'm not familiar with Love and Rockets, so I apparently missed some good tunes back when they were hot. So I get to experience what I missed with this tribute album, and these artists sound stellar. I'll have to dig up the real deal and listen to the originals.

Tribute albums are tough: you can't be too faithful and just make the listener say "I'd rather just hear the original", and if you make it too different you risk alienating the fan. All the tracks here are decent versions, and quite a few bands manage to put their own distinctive sound onto the track, even if it still doesn't always *add* anything to the original. (This, coming from the perspective of a long-time L&R fan.)
All that said, Puscifer, Blaqk Audio and Vex do great jobs (#2,4,14), and The Flaming Lips deliver the best interpretation on the album (#7). I also liked the Dubfire, Frankenstein 3000, and Chantal.. tracks just fine (#5,13,16). The rest? They're not bad versions, but I'd rather just hear the original... All told, it's worth getting the whole thing for $5 used, rather than just downloading #2,4,7,14 for $3.50.

LOVE IT! the third track gives me goosebumps! saw Love and Rockets and Coachella and the artists that remake their music capture the essence of each song- really cool!

This is an Amazing Album. 26 Songs by bands like Maynard, Flaming Lips, Blaqk Audio and A Place to Bury Strangers. Plus, Film School, Snowden, Frank Black, Dubfire, Charlie and the VKillers, Sweethead etc... There's really too many to count.
I loved the Blaqk Audio track. Puscifer is amazing. The value is incredible at 26 songs for $9.99. It's great to see Love and Rockets finally get there due and after 20 years later the songs are still awesome!

I have always loved Love & Rockets, but I think they were under appreciated, at least until now. This album is a celebration of L&R and will remind you of everything you loved about L&R. A definite buy for any L&R fan.
