5.0 out of 5 stars Saw it at Gorezone February 20, 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
B C Furtney's New Terminal Hotel is a horror film that refuses to pander to the generic horror format that too often relies on gratuitous nudity and over the top special effects for its own sake. That isn't to say that there isn't sexual gratification or depraved violence, but rather that New Terminal Hotel is first and foremost an exploration of characters. Unlike Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, where the sole concern of the audience is how the next victim will be diced up in a bloody cesspit of flesh, the audience find themselves drawn to the characters of New Terminal Hotel and their tragic stories.

New Terminal Hotel opens in the thick of the action with the perfectly cast Stephen Geoffreys, as Don Malek, torturing his boss Stanley Glissberg (Colliano). His motives are not apparent until much later on in the film, but sufficed to say it's an intriguing predicament as the Head of Starlight Studios finds himself paralysed and naked in Malek's ice filled bathtub. New Terminal Hotel focuses on Malek's struggles as a once successful screenwriter. His literary agent, Ava Collins (Shepis), is his only real associate as he plays the role of the isolated writer falling to pieces. Ava is self absorbed and only sticks with Malek in the hope that he'll hand her a fresh script. As the film progresses it becomes clear that Ava isn't as stable an acquaintance as Malek needs as she contemplates a way to rid herself of rival literary agent Carter Ball (Grabowski).

New Terminal Hotel was made on a budget of just $100,000.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pulp on Film February 24, 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
(written by Michael Critzer for NexGen Pulp, Spring 2010 Issue)

BC Furtney's latest film, New Terminal Hotel has been getting a lot of attention, and with a cast of horror film veterans including Stephen Geoffreys and Tiffany Shepis under Furtney's direction, it is no surprise. Reviews for the film abound on the internet, but for the sake of this review, and in the spirit of this magazine, we will review the film for its status as Pulp-Fiction, a test that it passes with flying colors.

It is reminiscent of more than one pulp genre. To begin with, the setting of the seedy hotel, the murders, and the unfolding mystery as to what motivates the killer all hearken back to the classic detective stories, only the film puts the audience in the P.I.'s chair. It is the character of that killer, Don Malek, that is the mystery. It is hard to tell, at first, if his actions and mannerisms are coming from twisted eccentricity or some yet to be revealed depth. It saves the first half of the film from becoming yet another "Hostel" style horror film that relies on shock factor in place of character development.

Throughout the film, Malek's placid demeanor in the act of killing and the sketchy world he has chosen to inhabit provides a surrealism akin to the work of Lovecreaft. And his disguise lends yet another facet to Malek's character, as it seems to release through his gestures, a playfulness and child-like joy in his actions.

Throughout the film, however, it is clear that Furtney has not simply made a horror film. His frequent use of long shots in hallways, the shower crime scene, and even the soundtrack point to the influence of Hitchcock.

4.0 out of 5 stars vile and distrubing May 1, 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
im a self admitted life long corey haim fan. the lost boys, license to drive and dream a little dream are three of my favorite 80s flicks. i even followed his career into b-movie stardom. this is his second to last film he ever appeared in before his death(r.i.p.) unfortunatly hes in the film for about 4 minutes. but thats ok because what i was introduced to was a highly original study of a troublad mans decent into madness. the director b.c. futney does a masterful job lurking into the depths of eerieness and violence. this is a must watch for people who enjoy the works of david lynch, or casper noa...im disapointed that this film got no attention at all, not even from the independent world of cinema, this film is far better then must mainstream b.s. out nowadays, so check it out!!!

Seeing as this was one of corey's film's i hadn't seen,i thought it looked good.Corey's character was goneNew Terminal Hotel very early in the movie. That was the reason i got it,to see him in it.Ugh!I think his character was high too,,i loved gorey corey and yet the writer killed him off like corey and the media did, with his career cuz of drugs.Wasn't he sober by then? I'm glad the director gave him a 2nd chance at an acting career! I would've liked to see him it longer.the movie role was short for his character.but i still liked him in it.May Corey live on though in the matinee in the sky.:0)
