I have had almost all of the modern grammars and some old ones too, and this one is one of the best. There is no need to get bogged down with these series (or sets) that teach NT Greek. A decent grammar like this one, A Greek NT, a Bauers Lexicon, and a few other reference books is what you need, not a relatively endless dependence on teaching materials published by you know who. Get a good grammar like this one, some reference books, and dig in. Dealing with the NT text is the way to learn NT Greek.

I've had 2 years of Homeric Greek and 1 of New Testament Greek. I completed my schooling in 1996 and have not kept up with my studies until recently. I am reading this book as a refresher and I am astounded at how well it helps me to bring together what I learned in the past. It focuses on grammar and how to pull together all the little 'rules' into a holistic survey. I would recommend it to any serious student of the Greek language. A key to the exercises is also available so that a student, studying on his/her own, can check his/her work for accuracy.

Having a first and second year Greek grammar bundled was a brilliant idea. The first chapter outlining morphology of the language is foundational and unique to Hewitt. The chapters on parsing and declensions are especially helpful as well. I will be requiring this text of my students in my first class on Koine.
