This review is from: New Testament Questions of Today (Paperback)
A superb collection of essays written by prof. Ernest Kasemann. It opens up with an essay dealing with hermeneutics of biblical scholarship mid twentieth century and ends up with the articles on the practical application of theological work in the pastoral context. A collection of articles follows dealing with issues such are: treatment of the sacred law in New Testament, biblical ecclesiology in the Fourth Gospel, articles dealing with a Pauline agenda in its role in the body of New Testament writing. Through these articles a reader gets an insight in the body of the most representative works of the professor Kasemann. Prof. Kasemann being a disciple of the great prof. Bultmann outlines what one contemporary theologian or biblical scholar owns to Bultmann and what one should consider a departing point in his theology that of his mentor. This is not a classical easy reading; the sentences are rather dense (a translation from German syntax is never easy). This book asks a reader an active involvement and seeks concentration and attention but the applicative value of the book is great. It influenced my theological formation substantially. And that is certainly something one seeks in a book
