About the Author

How did Nathan Hyam, a chef born in New York City, come to be known as "the Thai Guy"? After combining his love of food and teaching with his experience working as head chef-instructor at the Picasso Café, a restaurant training program for youth at risk, Nathan traded his apron for a suitcase and went on sabbatical with his wife. The two found themselves in Thailand and quickly became immersed in the scents and flavours of Thai cuisine.

A decade later, after many Thai cooking courses, mentoring by acclaimed Thai chefs, and more travels to Asia, Nathan is one of the preeminent chefs in Vancouver. His popular cooking classes, peppered with tips on how to replicate authentic dishes in Western kitchens, are the hottest tickets in town.

Nathan lives in Vancouver with his wife, Faye, and their 20-year-old cat, Jose. He is currently chairman of the board of Farm Folk, City Folk and is a board member of the Vancouver Food Policy Organization.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple and quick recipes, December 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: New Thai Cuisine (Paperback)
Very good book for those of us who can't (or don't want to have to) plan ahead and who want recipes that are quick to prepare.
The recipes I have tried so far have been well-explained and set out, the instructions easy to follow, the ingredients readily available and mostly with familiar English names.
Not too many ingredients reference other recipes - it always annoys me when I pick a seemingly quick and simple recipe which requires to a sauce that refers to a soup that refers to....etc.

This book does that very little.
...and the results tasted good too!
