4.0 out of 5 stars The hidden tale
I've found this series (recommended by my 10 year old) to be interesting. It shows the transformation of a 10 year old boy into the bounty hunter who delivers Han Solo to Jabba the Hut. It shows that no one is all bad and depicts Boba in a sympathic light. It's got some good morals, as all Star Wars stories do, without sugar coating some of the not so nice human...

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst of this series
Although these books are written for a younger set, I've enjoyed reading about the early adventures of Boba Fett and finding out how he becomes the fearsome bounty hunter of the original movies. It's got some good morals, as all Star Wars stories do, without sugar coating some of the not so nice human emotions and actions. Overall a good book for kids. I don't have any complaints about the language or names used--most Star Wars fans won't be phased by them even if they are kids.

This review is from: A New Threat (Star Wars: Boba Fett, Book 5) (Paperback)
My son reads like a maniac, so it is always a challenge to find him books he hasn't read yet! He loves the whole Boba Fett Series. For Star Wars, this series is not really complicated. Some of the other ones are very thick books and the concepts get really deep. The Boba Fett's are quick enjoyable books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Report due on Friday, January 9, 2007
This review is from: A New Threat (Star Wars: Boba Fett, Book 5) (Paperback)
My grandson loves this series of books....but he had not had to do a real book report until he started middle school. His first one was not good but then he decided to do the next one on this book and he got an "A"!
Excellent reading for Star Wars fans! (my grandson is 11)

Although these books are written for a younger set, I've enjoyed reading about the early adventures of Boba Fett and finding out how he becomes the fearsome bounty hunter of the original movies. In general, the books in this series have been pretty good, taking into account the prose and the plots are pretty simple.

This book however, was not very good at all. The plot is simply boring, with none of the suspense or intrigue found in earlier novels. The dialogues are completely uninteresting, even for a juvenile book. And the 'end' isn't really an end, the book simply runs out of pages. It's as if the publishers told Elizabeth Hand she had to write another book right away and it had to be a certain number of pages. All the while I was reading it, the text felt very rushed and unimaginative, which is sad because the other books in this series have actually been somewhat creative.

I hope that the next book in this series is better, otherwise I'll have to skip anymore books that may be published for Boba Fett.

The Boba Fett series are good books because it tells the story from Boba's point of view! But don't read this one first - You won't understand it. Read "The Fight To Survive" first!

4.0 out of 5 stars boba fett vs general grievous, July 29, 2005
This review is from: A New Threat (Star Wars: Boba Fett, Book 5) (Paperback)
I am basically a huge star wars fan and one of my favorite villains was boba fett. In the movies he was very quite but in this you get a glimpse of his history as a young bounty hunterI was a little bit confused on how the plot worked out. I mean at the end he actualy failes getting his bounty because of general grievous who actually fought him. heres how the story goes. Its a nice hot day on tatooine boba enters jabbbas palace tto find out his new bounty. later he arrives on this wierd swampy planet called xagobah he later befriens a giant lizard and so on and so forth.

2.0 out of 5 stars Maybe ok for kids, but certainly NOT for adults, May 2, 2004

This review is from: A New Threat (Star Wars: Boba Fett, Book 5) (Paperback)
To start off, I am a 33 year-old Star Wars fan. I bought this because I saw it on the Official Star Wars site, and read it was the first book that featured the new villian that will feature in Episide III: General Grievous.

Yes, I realise it was made for kids ages 9-12, but since I have two sons, ages 5 and 7 I thought I would give it a try. I figured that in worse-case-scenario, I'd find it utterly boring, and they'd have a book to enjoy in a couple years.

Well, to make a long story short: it was the worse-case-scenario.

1. It uses terminology that no youngster could POSSIBLY understand. They would have to have a Star Wars encyclopedia handy for every fourth or fifth word. That, to me, is pretty weak writing. Why not use terms that kids that age are familier with?

2. Half the names are rediculously difficult to pronounce: Ygabba, Mazariyan, Candaserri, Glynn-Beti, and the list goes on and on.

3. The story drags on and doesn't get to the point until the final three or four chapters!

4. General Grievous isn't even MENTIONED until chapter twenty - and then only briefly! He doesn't even make an appearance until chapter twenty-three! (And there are only twenty-four chapters!) On other words, only the last two chapters (or ten pages) feature this awesome new villian!

This could be forgivable if the rest of the story seemed worth telling, but to me it was just a bunch of filler materiel to stretch the story out to the final couple chapters.

I won't get into much more because I don't want to spoil this any more than I already have.

Suffice it to say that if you're getting it to read more about the new villian for Episode III, you're better off watching the awesome final Clone Wars cartoon (Episode 20), which you can download for free from the official Star Wars website or from Cartoon Network.

This is supposed to be book # 5 in the Scholastic Boba Fett series.

Unless you have enjoyed other Boba Fett novels, I suggest you stay away from this one.
