5.0 out of 5 stars Improves greatly on the original Tokyo Decadence
This is a far more realistic feeling film than its namesake. Better scripted and better acted. This is a biographical story of a young lady who lives her life both as an assertive intelligent individual and a masochist. Anyone with an interest in BDSM might find interest or even inspiration in this movie.

For a person thinking that this is going to be just another porno or adult style movie they are missing the underlying point that the director is trying to bring out in the dialogue and scene settings for the movie.

The opening is more of a self discovery in that the main actress understand that she is a masochist and is comfortable with being one but has to play the role of a Dom. Since she is a natural sub this role suits her well in that she understand the needs of the clients she ha while she is still going to school. The graduation from school brings her face to face with a natural Dom and the relationship of the two seems fine till a certain event cause her to do a 180 in how she acts and tries to leave behind the sub part of herself.

This deviation from self works for a while but an underlying emptiness is left for she is denying a part of herself that she knows she likes. This is why I say that in ways it is more of a movie of self discovery because each of us is always evaluating who we are, if we reject a part of ourselves we at times feel empty and need to reexamine the things in our life like the main actress did and reconnect with what we have been.

If you are not familiar with the world of BDSM, you should watch this film.

you are gonna figure out how people who love BDSM feel, how they live, how they seek for true love, and how normal they are. They stumble for love like us, they look for their real life and love like us, and they just want to be happy like us on. It is quite same thing we do. People look for their own way of life. It's the BDSM for them. That's all difference between ue and them.

The leading actress, Rinako Hirasawa does amazing performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars An accurate rendition of a masochist, March 13, 2011

Not only is this a true story but also, the central character is playing herself! She confesses to being a masochist. She indulges in sado-masochism to make money. This is all unfolding while she is still in high school. Her long time dream is to be a slave. The story should not be revealed in a review. Let's just say, there's lots of bondage, some candle-wax burning, penetration and whipping. All the time, she begs for more. There's a lesbian whipping sequence with foul language while the master watches. The female tongues entwine like snake heads. There are interesting twists but not the kind anticipated. This film has serious intent because it conveys what some people want to do in their sex lives. What adds weight is its alleged authenticity. For the student of the erotic, as well as the bizarre, this is worth watching.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Tame For Me...., September 14, 2009
By
This review is from: New Tokyo Decadence - The Slave (DVD)
Movies out of Japan sometimes take an interesting view that US film makers never take. Here for example is a movie that could have been as good as "The Story Of O" yet fell really short of doing so. The main character tells her story, yet the reviewer at times seems removed from her story. This movie is too tame for the subject matter to really hit home with the viewer. This movie could have been better if her story got the viewer more involved. In that area it fell way too short to be considered a good movie. The viewer really never thinks about the main character's pain and emotional suffering in her story which really is the whole point of the movie.
