5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cleaner, Quiet, Multiple Uses!
I have had the CD-2800 for over 2 months now and have really put it to use. It does a thorough job of cleaning jewelry, and unlike my older model, it is large enough to clean eyeglasses and other items. The fill line is well marked on both the unit and basket. The unit is very quiet while operating, and has an auto shut off at 3 minutes so you can walk away while it's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice unit for small jobs
Overall this is a good unit for light cleaning. You may have to run multiple cycles to get a good cleaning but given the price it is a good value. I have nothing to compare it against but I feel this unit definitely needs more power. I found that even with soap my grimy work safety glasses could not be thoroughly cleaned. They were better but not clean. I also found that...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cleaner, Quiet, Multiple Uses!, January 1, 2011

This review is from: New Trent CD-7810 Professional Ultrasonic Watch, Jewelry, CD and Eyeglass Cleaner (Electronics)
I have had the CD-2800 for over 2 months now and have really put it to use. It does a thorough job of cleaning jewelry, and unlike my older model, it is large enough to clean eyeglasses and other items. The fill line is well marked on both the unit and basket. The unit is very quiet while operating, and has an auto shut off at 3 minutes so you can walk away while it's cleaning.

This unit comes with a white plastic basket to place your items in. The basket has a round area in the center with smaller holes to place tiny earrings and other very small objects so they won't fall through when you lift it out. It also comes with an arch shaped piece for inserting post earrings and holding waterproof watches. I also use this piece to hang slender chains so they won't tangle when cleaning several items at once.

I use a jeweler's loop to check jewelry prior to and after cleaning, and despite being very quiet it is quite powerful and does a great job removing grime and leaving jewelry sparkling. I usually run the unit 2-3 times as recommended for jewelry and once for glasses. I can fit 2 pair of reading glasses into this unit. I have cleaned jewelry, eyeglasses, sunglasses, coins, CD's, an electric shaver head, razors, and small porcelain statues - all with wonderful results.

I would recommend using Dawn or Palmolive dish liquid mixed with warm water for best cleaning results, and always check to make sure items are safe to be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner. If cleaning only diamonds and/or gold, mix a bit of ammonia into warm water with your dish liquid - this is what my jeweler uses and suggests.

Place a dry cloth against the side as you empty any cleaner - this prevents water from dripping down and seeping into the circuit board.

I've been very pleased with the results of this model, and recommend this unit not only for jewelry, but cleaning many other items as well.

UPDATE: 10 months of regular use and still working very well. I noted some people are having problems cleaning certain items. A sonic cleaner, unless it is a truly professional model - that which a jeweler would use, cannot remove long-term built-up dirt or scum. This would require manual cleaning with a soft brush or cloth first (if item is not too delicate) or a professional cleaning by a jeweler. While labeled as a professional unit, this is an affordable home model.

I would stress again, please check an online listing for stones and settings that are safe to use in a sonic cleaner, or ask your jeweler.

After rinsing in a tightly closed sink you can place your jewelry on white tissue paper (the type gifts are wrapped in) to dry - it is very lint free. You can also use a flat piece, not crumpled, to dry the top of your stones, preventing water droplet marks.

Also, please do not put your fingers in any sonic cleaner while running.

I continue to find this sonic cleaner perfect for maintenance cleaning.

Addendum 2-2-12: My review is based on the model CD-2800 (see review above). The cleaner advertised as of 2/2012 is model CD7810 as stated in the Product Description (I just noticed this). The cleaner also looks quite different. I cannot comment on this model as I did not purchase it. I do not know why my review is with this model.

I have nothing to compare it against but I feel this unit definitely needs more power. I found that even with soap my grimy work safety glasses could not be thoroughly cleaned. They were better but not clean. I also found that the bottom of the unit got relatively hot after multiple cycles. Not hot enough to be a safety concern though. Still a good unit for the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ultrasonic cleaner we have ever used., March 16, 2011

This review is from: New Trent CD-7810 Professional Ultrasonic Watch, Jewelry, CD and Eyeglass Cleaner (Electronics)
A quick story about my wife and her jewelry. We have been married 23 years. She has been infatuated with jewelry since the first day we met. It didn't take too long after we were married that I somehow became the official jewelry cleaner. Over the course of time I have gone through many jewelry cleaners. Different kinds, makes, models, sizes and colors. I can tell you without reservation that the Trent 2800 cleaner that I recently purchased is the very best that I have ever used. Besides it's quiet operation and ease of use, it does one thing better than any of the others I have used - it cleans very, very, good. The watch and ring that I wear get really dirty. I usually take my watch to the Jewelry Store and have it professionally cleaned. After I saw how clean it got my ring and some of my wife's rings, I thought I would try my watch in the cleaner. It got my watch every bit as clean as the Jewelry Store did and saved me money. She now has me cleaning all her jewelry. It's a good thing that I'm retired now because she has an enormous amount of jewelry. If you want a really good jewelry cleaner then you sure can't go wrong with this one. I highly recommend it and the price was quite fair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Machine, February 7, 2011

This ultrasonic jewelry cleaner is a great way to clean jewelry. I bought it because I didn't want to have to use chemicals, not to mention eliminating the mess of measuring, etc. I have used it to clean both older and newer pieces. When I first cleaned my jewelry, I put the newer pieces through two cycles and loved the results...sparkling and very clean looking. The older pieces I have cleaned several times, and I am happy with those results, as well. Works wonderfully on sterling silver and gem stones! Also, I have cleaned my reading glasses and sunglasses in this little cleaner, and it worked wonders for the smudges and overall appearance.

3.0 out of 5 stars The seethrough lid cracks...., February 18, 2011

I've owned this for a few good months now, so it's time to renew my review. This is a good little machine. Jewelry comes out clean and sparkly.

I don't use the insert bucket it came with, as for me the end cleaning result is not satisfactory enough. I simply fill the unit up to the line with warm water and either a couple drops of Dawn soap or jewelry cleaner, and voila!

I love the LED light. I use it as a night light. It gives the bathroom a very calming very soft blue light.

All in all a good machine that I recommend for usual jewelry cleaning jobs.

I normally use the cleaner for jewelry consisting of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. On occasion, I use it to clean watches. It does a terrific job on all of the above mentioned items. It seems to remove both oil and debris. I am quite satisfied with the product. It is easy to use and relatively quiet. The indicator lights are very helpful. The only inconvenience is the water disposal. It would be nice to have a drain or spout to dispense with the water.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent jewelry cleaner!, March 28, 2011
This review is from: New Trent CD-7810 Professional Ultrasonic Watch, Jewelry, CD and Eyeglass Cleaner (Electronics)
I would highly recommend this cleaner to everyone. I read the directions and do not use the plastic container. It cuts the cleaning by 30%. My wife uses this every night to clean her jewelry. She works in a medical lab. So all day she is washing her hands and putting lotion on them. This cleaner keeps her diamonds sparkling. We have added some Mr. Clean to the water. She just drops in her jewelry and presses the button. Three minutes later she has sparkling jewelry.

I really enjoy using this ultrasonic cleaner. As soon as I received this item I cleaned several pieces of jewelry and was very happy with the results! This cleaner cleans diamonds and gold extremely well. I also used it to clean very tarnished silver and although it did not clean them entirely, I will try it again in the future with some dish soap to see if that takes care of it.

I bought this jewelry cleaner to clean my gold and silver jewelry. I was skeptical at first but after running a couple of cycles, my jewelry came out sparkling and shiny. I was amazed. It all looked brand new like it was when I bought it. I would recommend running two or three cycles for best clean. Great product and well worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars CD-2800, December 24, 2010
This review is from: New Trent CD-7810 Professional Ultrasonic Watch, Jewelry, CD and Eyeglass Cleaner (Electronics)
This ultrasonic cleaner worked better than expected. Very high quality. This machine is very quiet and has good power too. My wife loves it! She uses it all the time. She dips her jewelry in jewelry cleaner for a little bit, then it goes into the ultrasonic cleaner for a super brilliant shine. Very good communication with New Trent also. They are very helpful and have good follow up communication. I will definitely keep an eye out for future products from them. The price for their quality can't be beat.
