5.0 out of 5 stars 18 New Tracks
According to the Apologetix website, this 2-disc set contains 18 new songs, including several live recordings of previously released material.

Since I am equally familiar with the original songs as I am with some of Apologetix's parodies, from time to time I find myself thinking the 'new' words to mainstream songs that I hear on the radio. That's fun...

1.0 out of 5 stars Musicianship and production quality = terrible
I get it that it's parody, but man - when you can't even produce a steady 4/4 drum intro (see the beginning of the Wild Cherry parody), you should reconsider whether releasing said "music" is going to be glorifying God or having the opposite effect.

Terrible production quality, inferior musicianship, poor singing. It's painful to listen to. Leave the parody...

The vast majority of times, the quality of an Apologitex parody equals the original--vocally and instrumentally; this is especially true on their more recent releases. That really is an amazing commentary on these guy's talent.

I highly recommend this purchase, as well as some of their other more recent albums!

5.0 out of 5 stars Apologetix-New and Used Hits, December 7, 2005
This review is from: New & Used: Best of (Audio CD)
If I could give this album ten stars I would.I have all of Apologetix cds and they are all outstanding. These guys music talent and J Jacksons songwriting are truly amazing.Apologetix are more talented than 99% of the bands out there today. The music sounds exactly like the original and J Jackson can change his voice to sound like anyone.Their songs are so close to the originals, you have to be careful or you will be singing the old lyrics. If you're new to Apologetix this is a good place to start, since it has a little bit of all styles of music on it.I personally like the rock songs. They do parody's of AC/DC,Ozzy,Judas Priest,Poison,Metallica and many more. They also do parody's of country, rap, new metal, early rock n roll.As I said these guys are super talented, just get this cd and see for yourself.Better yet get all their cds,you won't be dissappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, June 1, 2007
This review is from: New & Used: Best of (Audio CD)
It's amazing how one person can mimic the diverse vocal ranges and styles as the songs 'parodied' here. At first I thought different band members sang different titles that their voice was best suited for, but then I saw the DVD, and J. Jackson is both lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX. The lyrics are all good, and some of the lyrics are really clever. J. Jackson also does a very good job of giving the words a similar phonetic feel to them as the original. The group actually does an impressive job of recreating most of the varied music/instrument sounds, and they just seem to keep getting better too. Remember, this is just four or five guys reproducing the sounds of maybe a hundred very different singers and bands.

The CD that you'll like best will probably be determined by the ones that have the most songs you are familiar with and enjoy (where you enjoyed the original versions that is). I also found myself enjoying songs that I would not otherwise have listened to, but I like the message in the rewrites. Some of these songs have even been hitting number one on local music charts. I look forward to seeing them in concert soon.

These are really great albums. The way the writers have changed the lyrics but still keep the sound of the original songs is fantastic. A credit to Apologetix & all who helped. I couldn't believe it when I read that all the lead vocals in all the songs are sung by one person. You are truly blessed. Can't wait for more.

This is a great sampler of Apologetix hits. It features songs in various genres including country, rock, pop, rap, and classic rock.

For those who are unfamiliar with them, this group parodies songs in popular music from various genres and does it to Christian lyrics. The songs generally have Scriptural references for the listener to review.

The lyricist, J. Jackson, does an incredible job of reworking a wide variety of songs with Christian lyrics. His skill level is amazing. One must hear this group to really appreciate just how good they are. Jackson is not only great with the words, he is also able to make the vocals sound very much like the original artists.

This CD has something for everyone. The listener will probably like many and not like some. For me, I find that I really like the ones where I like the original version. There are also some that I don't care for too much as I don't like the genre.

Some of my favorites on this CD include remakes of the following: 'December 1963' by The Four Seasons, 'Hotel California' by The Eagles, 'Stairway to Heaven' by Led Zeppelin, 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' by The Charlie Daniels Band, and 'Takin' Care of Business' by BTO.

I recommend this for anyone who enjoys the sound of well known secular songs but not the lyrics.

I bought this set of CD's for my husband's birthday and we were having so much fun singing Christian lyrics to secular songs! These guys do such a fantastic job playing the original music and changing the words to a Christian theme!
Now we can't wait to see them in concert! Buy this, you won't be disappointed!

Terrible production quality, inferior musicianship, poor singing. It's painful to listen to. Leave the parody to Weird Al, who has actual skill.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible!!!, January 26, 2007
This review is from: New & Used: Best of (Audio CD)
This is like the Weird Al of Christian music!!! I know a lot of people think it is good because they change the words so it becomes a Christian song. The problem is it's something copied for the sake of making money by labeling it Christian. You might as well listen to Eminem, Ozzy, Vanilla Ice, and Queen. I listened to Ryan Dobson's podcast (son of James Dobson) and I just heard about this group. I listened to the Eminem song and it was horrible. The singing is terrible!! To get Ryan Dobson's views on this group listen to his podcast from 1/25/07 at [...]
