I had to read this book cover-to-cover for an MBA class.

Although there is some very good information in this book, there is a *lot* of filler material. I think it would have been a much better book at about half the length or less.

During the term, I would type up reviews of each chapter for exams. I was often stunned at how little substance I was recording. Sometimes a 20 paged chapter could be condensed down to 4 or 5 points on a half sheet of paper!

The fact that it's in black & white and light on the graphics/figures/tables didn't help the interest level while reading.

I had to buy this for a class and wasn't sure about it at first. It is most excellent and a must for all who are considering going into business for themselves! Worth its weight in gold.

Item as described. Would only read it if required by class. Book is ok, but hard to stay focused on.

The book condition as was described. The shipping was the problem. It went to another city first. My class started and I had to buy another book and ebook so I could get started:(

This book was one of my favorites in my MBA program. Very interesting material, easy to read, a lot of information. Actually, I was interested in reading it even after my graduation.

I used this for a small business/entrepreneurship class. It is quite informative, especially if you are planning to start your own business imminently. The book will take you through exercises to create a business idea, define your venture, write a business plan, and even figure out how to acquire capital. It is very complete in information.

However, I have two complaints. First, the text is fairly out-of-date; many examples date from the 1980s and 1990s. This is ok since history repeats itself, but it made it very difficult to write about the case studies since the companies and industries have progressed to entirely new issues and environments in 20-30 years. The information presented has definitely been revised, but the examples and case studies, in general, have not been updated. Second, the index is virtually useless. I like to be able to look up information; here it's almost a hopeless cause unless you can remember in what chapter (or really, on what page) you read the information.

Five stars for information + three stars for updated case studies/examples and a useless index = a four star rating.

The eighth edition was VERY disappointing. Long-winded, felt dated (many references to the 1980s and 1990s), read like a blunt hagiography to Ewing Marion Kaufmann. Constant references to the authors' own works & praise for their own institution (with links to... the Kaufmann Foundation). Money wasted.
