The very best guide to Earth Mysteries and Sacred Geometry,
By yrusalem@actcom.co.il (Jerusalem Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
This is a seminal work in the rediscovery of earth mysteries and sacred geometry in both contents and style. It is a complete re-writing of the author's first version "The View Over Atlantis", which literally "broke the ground" and introduced the New Age movement to Ley Lines and other "Earth Mysteries", and sacred geometry. By following the stories of the re-discovery of the megalithic temples of England, the author leads us into the very spirit of finding the keys to ancient mysteries. He continues, through the proportions of the Great Pyramid and Stonehenge, Plato's Atlantis and the gnostic codes of the Book of Revelation to the most astounding and original discovery - the "New Jerusalem Diagram". This diagram, derived from both abstract geometry and the actual earth and lunar measures proves the key for almost all the great monuments of antiquity - and a key for mankind's future. One of the most original books written this cen! tury.

A breath of fresh air!,
By Hakuyu "Ikeda" (Kyoto, Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
Like many other readers, I agree with the reviewer who said that this book has 'revolutionary implications' for humanity and the sciences. I read the first edition - years back, and in its own way, it changed my entire perspective on life. One reviewer abandoned it as 'hippy dippy' nonsense - but, such ideas have been heeded and used in Asia, for millennia. Sorry, but 'hippies' did not invent it. Until modern times, such wisdom regulated the lay out of temples, even whole towns in Asia. Rather like acupuncture - the principles involved with 'feng-shui - ley-lines (lung-mei in China) defy strict logic - but, they can be divined in other ways - and work!
A word of caution, however. More than a few people refer to this lost-art as 'earth science' - but, that's too simplistic. From the Chinese point of view, it is an interplay between celestial and terrestrial energy (chi), and it seems that the caucasian practitioners of yore viewed it the same way. It is not entirely lost to Western people. When push comes to shove, hard-headed business people in Australia have paid diviners to 'dowse' for water - and they are usually successful. 'Dowsing' is but one element - but it is a good place to put 'theory' to the test. As supplementary reading, I recommend Guy Underwood's 'Patterns of the Past' - because he 'dowsed' and mapped the energy-fields around many megalithic sites, cathedrals etc. - with fascinating results. At one time, the Russian Academy of Science sponsored research into such things, finding what were termed 'black pools' - nodes of negative energy which exerted a harmful effect upon humans, animals and plants. John Michell's 'The View Over Atlantis' was a ground-breaking work - and it is good to see this new edition. Given the worsening picture - environmentally, it seems timely to review ways of thinking, taking man's interdependence with the terrestrial and celestial forces into account. The 'chopped logic' which has governed life since the Industrial Revolution can no longer serve us. Modern physics tells us that the perceived boundaries between things - are largely illusory, and we should explore the prospect of re-alligning science with the wisdom of the ancients. We need scientists who are shamans, to see us through the next millennium and beyond.

An excellent overview,
By A Customer
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
An excellent synthesis of the diverse phenomena that fall under the subject 'earth mysteries'. If you are new to this field or have been looking into one area or another about earth mysteries, this work will give you new insights or a better overview. I strongly recommend it.

Mind-blowing!,

This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
This book starts out innocently enough exploring the ley lines and stone circles of Britain, but leads you inexorably deeper into the mysteries of an advanced, prehistoric, global civilization. A real mind-opener - it's well documented, and though the photos are mostly old and all black-and-white, the images are striking in what they tell us.

So What are we Waiting For!?,

I found this book very exciting and thought provoking. I also found it very frustrating. As in all (or at least many) of the 'left of center' scientific endeavors, the views of the proponents seem to be so obvious and make so much sense, that I don't understand why the mainstream establishment doesn't get on it and do their thing?
Michell puts forth a lot of very detailed, specific information here. It's not hearsay. It's quantifiable. I imagine a huge team made up of archeologists, mathematicians, astronomers, astrologers, physicists and God knows who else to converge on this and pull all this disparate information into a cohesive whole. It's not like they are starting from scratch. A huge amount of work has already been done. Much of what they need to do is verify it and put the pieces of the puzzle together. What Michell is saying here is that, more than likely, there was a worldwide civilization thousands of years ago who very well understood the magnetic forces in the Earth and, not only the movement of the cosmos, but its effect on our planet. And they seemed to understand it down to the minutia. They were unbelievably advanced but in a way that has nothing to do with what we consider advanced. I don't know about you but I find this to be important beyond the meaning of the word. Understanding this would completely change nearly everything we thought we knew about our history. Truthfully, some of this got past me. He has some passages involving math (not my strongest subject) that I simply did not understand, and he didn't do a tremendous job explaining it. That aside, I find this book of incredible importance. Again, were someone to organize the proper disciplines and do a full court press on this subject, we would propel our society into a whole new way of thinking and understanding. The implications are mind boggling. If you're at all pre-disposed toward this sort of thing, or even only harbor a mild curiosity, this is a great place to start.

Touches On Many New Age Topics,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
This book touches on many topics which I guess would fall under the new age movement or perhaps more accurately ancient sciences. It spends the most time on the subject of ley lines.
I felt Michel is on the right track in many areas such as realizing that for example the Great Pyramid was a working machine at one time and employed a type of technology that is currently not in the public domain. Whether or not secret government agencies have rediscovered some of these things is another matter. I tend to take off stars in reviews when authors start mixing information from the bible and other reliable and accepted sources with fairy tales. Michel talks about the legend of Joseph of Arimathea traveling to Britain with Jesus Christ, etc.. That's about as likely as Mary Magdalene sailed to France with Joseph of Arimathea and Lazarus in a boat with no oars and there gave birth to Christ's daughter. Michel is also one of those writers who feels there are hidden origins to Christianity which were covered up as a result of some great conspiracy by the Church. He thinks we don't know who really started Christianity for example and that Christ secretly taught His disciples about some of Michel's bizarre theories. There's also a lot of numerology in the book which is hard to follow and understand. Michel doesn't like the European meter too well. I wonder too why people in for example China would decide to change the shape of mountains, divert rivers, etc., to make the landscape more harmonious with the ley lines. The ley lines probably do exist but then again it was nature that created those mountains also. Still I think Michel is right about a lot of things and this book is probably worth reading for many people, especially for someone who may not be aware of the various theories that are out there. He talks about subjects such as the process of initiation and alchemy which come up a lot in other philosophical and occult related books. Listed below are some books which deal with these subjects in more detail. I agree with another reviewer this book has little to nothing to do directly with Atlantis. Jeff Marzano Initiation Fulcanelli: Master Alchemist: Le Mystere des Cathedrales, Esoteric Intrepretation of the Hermetic Symbols of The Great Work (Le Mystere Des Cathedrales ... of the Hermetic Symbols of Great Work) The Giza Power Plant : Technologies of Ancient Egypt Forbidden History: Prehistoric Technologies, Extraterrestrial Intervention, and the Suppressed Origins of Civilization Initiation in the Great Pyramid (Astara's Library of Mystical Classics) Edgar Cayce's Story of the Origin and Destiny of Man Edgar Cayce's Atlantis Edgar Cayce's Atlantis and Lemuria: The Lost Civilizations in the Light of Modern Discoveries The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls: Unlocking the Secrets of the Past, Present, and Future The Philosopher's Stone: Alchemy and the Secret Research for Exotic Matter

Misleading title - hardly any Atlantis here,
By
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
Most of the first part of the book is about straight tracks and ley lines in England. Only in the very latter parts of the book are you introduced to ratios and other measurements that went into sacred sites. There is hardly any mention of Atlantis at all. A better book if you are looking for information on how to read sacred landscapes is Creating Sacred Space by Chuck Pettis.

Weird.,
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
This is a very strange book and it doesn't do very much in the way of analysis. This is more akin to a text by the devout trying to proselytize the unbeliever.

Shape the Earth and measure it,
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
Many things on Earth will remain unexplained for a long time. In the meanwhile we can entertain ourselves with the question of the Atlantis, its position and role in ancient world, its disappearance and with the remnants that were found around the world. Why would anyone want to make straight road that goes over high hills and unpleasant ground when he could simply make a road through most convenient terrain? And how has he (or she) made that road? What did stone circles serve for? No one can really explain this. Mitchell also noticed that whole world (ancient buildings on world, of course) follow some pattern, which is by no means incidental. He tries to figure out and comment this pattern and claims that there is some truth about Plato's Timaios and Kritias. Romans, which are "known" for building long straight roads, were just simply using and rebulding something that has been done long before them. We credited them for something which has not originally come from them without even thinking why would they do so (because they loved geometry:)). Now when Mitchell has shown us that work is much older than we thought, we get baffled. Question for 1,000 US$: Who did it, and why?

Absolute nonsense,
By Mr Chairman (Buckinghamshire) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New View Over Atlantis (Paperback)
After reading this book I went on to study Archaeology and History.
Looking back on it now, I can honestly say the book is full of absolute nonsense and Michell completly ignores over 100 years work by some of the greatest academics, archaeologists and historians. The book is packed full of New Age 'Hippy-Dippy' rubbish with no evidence whatsoever to back some it's outragous claims. Avoid, find yourself a proper academic book to read instead. |
