Book Description

Take a new look at women’s sexuality!

This fascinating book looks at the wide-ranging therapeutic, social, and political implications of the new paradigm of women’s sexuality. International in scope and multidisciplinary in approach, A New View of Women’s Sexual Problems examines the theoretical and practical effects of the landmark document produced by the Working Group on a New View of Women’s Sexuality. The book brings together gender theory, psychology, social science, and medicine in a powerful cultural critique of the reigning medical approach to women’s sexual health. International experts from India, Costa Rica, Israel, the US, and many other cultures place this revolutionary idea in cultural and political context, as well as extrapolating fresh new treatment options for dealing with women’s sexual problems.

A New View of Women’s Sexual Problems analyzes the new paradigm’s implications in many fields, including:
  • family medicine
  • couples counseling for straight and lesbian partners
  • STD prevention and sexual health issues
  • sex therapy
  • sex education
  • feminist theory
  • developmental psychology

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, March 5, 2004
By
Ruthie (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A New View of Womens Sexual Problems (Paperback)
I had the pleasure of hearing Leonore Tiefer speak at a 2003 conference (Womens' Sexualities) in Bloomington, IN and was so interested in what she had to say that I ordered this book and the matching workshop guide that went this it. Basically, the introductory chapter outlines a 'New View' for considering women's' sexual dysfunction that takes into account far more than possible biological problems. I am very pleased with this book - it provides not only a strongly written article, but also a multicultural, interdisciplinary set of responses. As a Masters Student in Social Work with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy I have found this intriguing, as well as a useful reference for writing papers. It has fanned my spark for studying Human Sexuality at the doctoral level, as well.

Practica views, excellent to dispel all sort of non-proven therapies, and the bottom line is a simple practical remedy for this ancient and not well understood problem, is somewhat mechanical but addresses and is workable
