A fresh take on the organ quintet!,
By
This review is from: New Vistas (Audio CD)
It goes without saying that Jim Rotondi has a profound impact on the jazz scene in New York and around the world. This album gives fresh insight into not only the use of the organ trio with a two horn front, but also on latin tinged music. This album uses the organ trio of Sam Yahel, a very talented and deeply complex musician, Peter Berstein, one of the most soulful guitarists in Jazz, and Bill Stewart who always contributes in a supportive and thoughtful manner. This is one of the best organ trios out there! Those farmiliar to the Criss Cross label know that Brian Blade is the normal drummer in this trio, but I have to say that Bill Stewart is very insighful on this album and does subtle, but amazing things. As usual Chris Potter is in top form and leaves nothing to question. He is in my opinion the premier tenor voice of this generation! And of coarse Jim Rotondi is fantastic and his tunes are filled with latin influence, but in an underscored fasion. If you dig Jim, Potter, or Organ trios... BUY THIS ALBUM. And if you're not, but it anyway! It is just that amazing!
