5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Book... too bad this is the only one, March 28, 2008
This review is from: New Warriors: Reality Check (v. 1) (Paperback)
The whole idea of this tpb is fun, from the light hearted storyline to Skottie Young's cartoony artwork. It's a shame most of them died in the civil war because this would have been a title that i would like to have continued to read. The newer version of the New Warriors in darker and sometimes it is better to read a nice light hearted book. I heart Microbe and i think i might get him tattooed on my leg.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic, August 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: New Warriors: Reality Check (v. 1) (Paperback)
I bought this book with barely any knowledge about the New Warriors, but my faith was in Zeb Wells from Robot Chicken, and Skottie Young's fun, enticing artwork. I was right. From battling Tiger Shark and Armadillo and re-capturing a deranged, super-intelligent zoo, to zombie-Einstein and cat-stealing robots, this book is a masterpiece. Each story is a separate adventure like episodes of a TV show, which is the whole premise of this series. It introduces two new interesting New Warriors, the art and colors compliment each other extraordinarilly, and Wells' incredible writing ties it all together. This is easily one of my favorite Marvel comics.

4.0 out of 5 stars They're back, May 17, 2007
This review is from: New Warriors: Reality Check (v. 1) (Paperback)
Anyone who remembers the New Warriors will probably remember them with equal feelings of joy and disdain. Reality Check finds a bit of more light hearted take on the lower-tier super team, as former leader Night Thrasher re-assembles the team for the sake of reality television. The team features returning members like fan favorites Nova and Speedball, along with Namorita and new member Microbe among others. What makes Reality Check enjoyable is the way writer Zeb Wells satires reality TV and the media to boot, while providing an actually compelling story. My biggest gripe is the artwork by Skottie Young, which is very anime-ish and cartoony. I don't mean to knock the guy, but his style just isn't my thing. That being said though, Young's art doesn't detract from the story too much, making this a pleasent surprise indeed. Though it would have been nice to see some other old New Warriors members in the lineup (Firestar and Justice in particular, and maybe even Rage), Reality Check is a surprising treat. Check it out if you remembe the old New Warriors comics, of if you enjoyed Dan Slott's GLA: Misassembled.
