4.0 out of 5 stars if only they'd focused more on 12" singles versions...
with over 15 volumes in the "Just Can't Get Enough" series, this is the only volume that ever touched upon some 12" dance singles, not just 7" dance singles. You get a good amount here, but there are still some single mixes. And the version of Lawnchairs on here is the "original" and not the version most are familiar with--that version is actually much better. However,...

1.0 out of 5 stars What Were They Thinking?
While there is a plethora of compilations revolving around the New Wave genre, many being quite exceptional, this particular collection would definately fall short. Of the 14 tracks on this cd, there are only five I had heard of, 1 of which is VAGUELY familiar. That alone says a lot, since I was a high school student in that era, and New Wave being more of a music...

with over 15 volumes in the "Just Can't Get Enough" series, this is the only volume that ever touched upon some 12" dance singles, not just 7" dance singles. You get a good amount here, but there are still some single mixes. And the version of Lawnchairs on here is the "original" and not the version most are familiar with--that version is actually much better. However, this volume is worth getting for the 12" version of Dominatrix on CD alone! Track times:

1. lawnchairs (3:30)

2. papa's got a brand new pigbag (3:46)

3. bostich (4:35)

4. ball of confusion (7:15)

5. rapture (10:02)

6. precious (5:56)

7. beat box (4:52)

8. wildstyle (8:23)

9. dominatrix (4:51)

10. think about it (5:01)

11. moody (2:49)

12. cavern (5:25)

13. too many creeps (4:03)

14. konk party (8:16)

4.0 out of 5 stars Commercial New Wave, This Is Not! (That's a Very Good Thing), November 7, 2003

For fans of New Wave music who idealize New Wave as being a cookie-cutter lineup of the Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears and Duran Duran (perhaps like the last reviewer), this is not your CD! That's the good news, because New Wave music is/was so much more than the Top 40 New Wave you currently hear in the increasing retro/flashback radio waves. Kudos to a compilation that explores some of the obscurity that true New Wave music originated from, the underground.

While there is a plethora of compilations revolving around the New Wave genre, many being quite exceptional, this particular collection would definately fall short. Of the 14 tracks on this cd, there are only five I had heard of, 1 of which is VAGUELY familiar. That alone says a lot, since I was a high school student in that era, and New Wave being more of a music preference... it was a lifestyle. Yello, Art of Noise, Blondie, and Love and Rockets are the only worthwhile contributers of this collection. Why not Ebn-Ozn, though they only had one hit, it still chimes the memories of the former "New Wavers" of days gone by. Next time a corporate executive gets the bright idea to compile a New Wave collection, they should first seek out somebody (perhaps me) who REALLY knows what the New Wave croud actually listened to. Due to lack of interest, perhaps this "collection" will quickly disappear into the archives of File 13.
