5.0 out of 5 stars Have You Revolutionized Your Health Today?, January 21, 2007
According to Paul Zane Pilzer, the next new Trillion Dollar Trend is Health and Wellness. Paul does a brilliant job explaining what this phenomenon is and more importantly "Why" it is taking place. At the time this book came out, health and wellness was already a $200 billion dollar industry. It's now more than double that!

Paul talks about the opportunities that are available for entrepreneurs, investors and distributors. After each chapter, he has a list of insightful, thought-provoking questions that you should ask yourself before pursuing any opportunity in this industry.

What I didn't expect from this book is that it actually gave some sound health advice too!

For example, on Page 64 he states that as a preventative measure, drinking 5 glasses of water each day decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45 percent, the risk of breast cancer by 79 percent, and the risk of bladder cancer by 50 percent! Now, I drink that much if not more, but I had no idea how beneficial drinking water (assuming it's filtered and/or purified) can be!

In another example he talks about it the danger of drinking cow's milk on Page 81. Did you know that the difference between "low-fat or 2% milk" verses regular whole milk is only 1%?!! Whole milk contains 3% fat by weight. I had no clue.

He also states that contrary to popular opinion, drinking milk actually CAUSES osteoporosis as well as allergies, gas, constipation, obesity, cancer, heart disease and a host of other infectious diseases. Even better, he talks about a much healthier alternative to cow's milk.

Anyone who is passionate about health and wellness and who has a desire to build wealth would greatly benefit from reading this book. It was such an easy-to-read, informative and inspirational book, that I finished reading it in 2 days! It validated the decision that I had already made to pursue opportunities in health and wellness.

Now, I don't normally give a lot of 5 star ratings, but Paul Zane Pilzer truly earned it with this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Healthcare is about to Crash, December 22, 2005
According to a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers Study *, "Health Spending Expected To Triple Globally and Consume 21 percent of US GDP"

The fact is that Economics Perpetuates Sickness.

Get ready to Open your Eyes. The Wellness Revolution is a compelling read for anyone seeking opportunity in the Healthcare industry. As an economist, Pilzer is the perfect person to write such a book. While we may think otherwise, economics is what really drives the world - and it's no different in healthcare. His Five Distinct Characteristics of Pervasive Industries matches very well with Clayton Christensen's theories of disruptive innovation. The bottom line is what's really going to make a difference in people's lives.

Pilzer's assessment on How Economics Perpetuates Sickness is a real eye opener. As a vegetarian and drug-free consumer, I see much of what he talks about running rampant throughout the medical community. Traditional medicine treats symptoms (period). Just think - when was the last time you saw someone who was well, go to the doctor.

Entrepreneurs - A world of opportunity is out there just waiting for you. If you want to tap into an emerging 1 Trillion (it's already $200 Billion) dollar industry, then read this book!

What A Disappointment!

I picked up this book looking for the opportunities ahead in the wellness industry, and frankly didn't find any, except for what the author is selling- Wellness Insurance. He promotes it in every chapter and then refers the reader to his website. It gets old. Is it a MLM? It sure feels like a high pressure pitch. Just when you think you're about to get a good tip on a new business opportunity, it's his insurance again.

I'm already sold on the wellness aspect of living and already am a client of alternative practitioners. So other than an economic lesson about how we got to this point, there's not much else except how other people have made it big in the beginning of this trend. He promotes the story of Silk soy milk, which I have since been told not to drink because of soy's dubious qualities, Boca Burger as well as other vegetarian food producers, and mostly other doctors that have since turned to the wellness side of the health care business, like Dr. Mercola and his website, which I value as a source for up to the date wellness information.

Like another reviewer, I find Pilzer's knowledge to be dated in the area of holistic health.

So where are the NEW opportunities? He seems to outline only the old ones, except his wellness insurance of course. This book might have been enlightening when it first came out in 2002, but I think it's old news now in 2008. Even then, I don't see a great deal of opportunities being proposed. The only "revised and expanded" areas of the book are him taking the opportunity to sell his own products to the reader.

I give it 2 stars for explaining the history of where we are today. If you are looking for the future opportunities in the wellness industry- it's not here.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must if you're interested in financial issues, August 26, 2005
The Wellness Revolution really is a revolution in itself. The knowledge that Paul Zane Pilzer expose and share is no less than mindblowing. Incredible that he has a capacity to look into so many areas of society. His sharp analysis are so inspirering. Where it is easy to be stucked and feel the pressure of pessimism, he opens totally new doors to see the progress instead.
This book is a must for anyone interested in how society develops and interested in creating a strong financial situaition for oneself and society.

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth at last..., November 9, 2006
If you only read the first 40 pages of this book, you will get the point.

The solution to our "health crisis" is so simple that we are missing it completely. It is NOT better drugs, more testing, more doctors, higher insurance premiums, etc.

The solution is taking personal responsibility for eating low on the food chain, and looking for business opportunities which enhance health rather than degrade it.

We've been living that lifestyle since 1972, and it works. We are in our mid-50's and healthy, trim, fit, and we love every day because we know that we may reach out to touch the lives and health of people in the spirit and practice of prevention and wellness.

Great job, Paul Pilzer, in telling the truth about the economics of sick care vs. Health Care!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wellness - Sellness, March 14, 2006

I am in the planning process of opening a wellness center in a resort area with a physician. I had no idea how BIG this business was. I would say that this book is a primer for further exploration into this field. It has given me a better understanding of how important wellness and anti-aging is over the so-called health care industry. It has given me the incentive to lose about 20 pounds in order to practice what I may be preaching in the near future. Thanks for opening my eyes even more.

5.0 out of 5 stars HEADS UP ENTREPRENEURS!, July 31, 2005
I loved this book! It gives great insight on the next huge industry and ways that entrepreneurs can cash in. If you're looking for a great business idea or information on how the world will change, get this book. You won't be disappointed. I was surprised at the negative reviews. I'm thinking that those people probably can't read. This is a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The wellness revolution, February 24, 2006
Upon reading this book I become more aware about what I can do to increase my wealth and health as well as help others do the same. Some of the knowledge obtained from this book is disturbing but necessary if we as a race are to evolve and care for each other in a holistic way. Many thought provoking ideas should send your mind on a journey you will not regret. Knowledge truly is power.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, March 7, 2009
This review is from: The New Wellness Revolution: How to Make a Fortune in the Next Trillion Dollar Industry (Hardcover)
I, too, was disappointed in this book. I expected more information about how healthcare was going to move toward a more proactive approach. I found the book focussed on the author's views about his own products. Was not relevant to Australia - despite the fact that it says it is a book for all countries. A waste of my money!

This review is from: The New Wellness Revolution: How to Make a Fortune in the Next Trillion Dollar Industry (Hardcover)
I've been very impressed so far, especially with the insurance chapters. Great help in allowing me to explain to people how they can afford to be healthy! That was great to learn! I would recommend it to anyone wanting to take part in helping turn our country around, away from sickness care!
