Dresdner's original Wood Finishing Book was a great compilation of years of finishing experience and wisdom, and the New Wood Finishing Book has taken this knowledge to the next level! Mr. Dresdner's style and explanations are clear and concise leaving little doubt as to the appropriate methods and materials. His additions of vignettes from his years of finishing experience are wonderful, often hilarious examples of how to or more often how not to do something.

Anyone looking to apply a finish to wood must own this book!

It is a pleasure to read this book. Not only is the author an authority, but his style is very readable. The print is easy on the eyes and the illustrations are complete and helpful. Simple explanations of a complex subject. Very helpful for a beginner, but also a helpful reference when problems develope or specific instructions are needed. Well edited. Highly recommended.

This book contains all the information needed to make informed decisions about finishing, repairing damaged finishes, and hiding blemishes. Michael Dresdner is a personal friend and lives just a few minutes away from me. I have learned enough from him and his books over the years that many of my friends now come to me for finishing advice! Michael's book presents what many see as a dry subject, in an entertaining, informative, and easy to read manner. My copy is already getting the dog-eared, much used look of a cherished resource book. If you had to pick only one resource, The New Wood Finishing Book is the clear choice. I won't even loan mine to friends!

I really enjoyed this book. I think Dresdner is a very competent person. You know that he is there to help you out with finishing. I would highly recommend this book.

I am a beginning woodworker who was tired of having poor finishing jobs ruin the results the hard work I put in to my projects. I have already put some of the techniques in this book to work on a foot stool and the difference was amazing. The reading of this book is entertaining and informative and not at a level that we beginners can't understand. This book will stay readily available in my shop to be referenced before any finishing job. I finally understand the types of finishes and the applications of each.

A very good "how to book" on obtaining the best finish on a wood project for those of us that need all the help we can get. IMO, this book is well written and easy to understand.

In line with Flexner's book, this one covers finishing techniques. It provides good coverage with concise and informative text.

This book explains all about finishing-- everything from safety, to stripping, choosing the right finish, and avoiding and correcting finishing mistakes. It's packed with pictures, which help immeasurably in understanding the different techniques and outcomes described. Do you wonder what sealer is? Pore filler? The difference between pigmented and dye stains? This book explains it all in easy-to-understand language and helps guide woodworkers towards choosing the finish that's best for their piece. It's also a very entertaining read.

This book was very useful to understand how to make good finishes. I strongly recommend it. It is a good investment.

The is a very complete book if you want to do anything to a piece of wood but paint it. 5 million ways to stain and repair damage to stained furniture. If you are looking for a reference to get a professional painted finish this is NOT the book for you.
